I love watching the tat they try to sell on the shopping channels on cable. I love watching the hacks trying to sell 200+ divan sets, just to see how many different ways they can describe their uses. Mind you, I'm damn close to buying the Titan Shaver and Julienne slicer; they eve throw in a garlic peeler.
Who the hell watches that? Page 4
Quote: Aaron @ November 22 2008, 7:25 PM BSTHole In The Wall really does prove that something can be so bad it's good.
An Australian TV critic named Catherine Deveny had some harsh words to say about the local version of Hole in the Wall last year: "Hole in the Wall: Try hole in the head. It's not a television show; it's an intelligence test. If you're still watching after five minutes I'm afraid you failed. Unless you're under eight years old. Or you were recently lobotomised. Or you have your hand over your gaping mouth, too paralysed with horror to change the channel. According to the voice-over, Hole in the Wall is a show 'where the fun never stops'. It's a pity they didn't introduce it as: 'A stupid game show we ripped off from Japan because we're devoid of original ideas and back our lowest common denominator slop to sell advertising.'"
Well she can f**k off and go back to her documentaries on Sartre.
Joyless bint.

Maybe a voice of dissention but I do enjoy newnight review a lot. I do concede that it can be po faced at times and of course some of the panelists and their opinions can perhaps jar but the bottom line is surely anything that is willing to critique the Arts in this age of 'When Camels Go Bad' and 'Ross Kemp's Sodomy Tractor challenge' is worth a weekly half an hour slot. Again, I do understand that some of the guests can irk, Paul morley and his perticular brand of disaffected but knowing whimsy grate for me but it has a fair pop at a decent spectrum of the Arts and there's normally a couple of items per episode that engage me.
Anyway, much more fun is what I can't possibly endure:
Sky News
Two Pints of Excrement and a packet of who commissions this Jiz.
Loose Women
Any Body improvement Gawpfest with Trinny/Gok etc
Holby City
A question of Smug ex sports stars falsely laughing.
Getting embittered now, stopping.
Ah Lord Summerside, as much as I agree with your disdain for the programmes you've listed, you have to admit that there are people who tune in to these shows, sometimes in vast numbers.
I have yet to meet a single human being that has tuned into the Community Channel on purpose.
Having said that, I listed BBC Three documentaries like 'Single Dad's Mansion' and there could be bored 13 year old chavs who actually watch this shit.
Renegade, I absolutely admit your point, it's simply different strokes for different folks and my opinion is just that, it's a kind of 'If I ruled the world' thing I guess. You are right though of course.
BTW what's the community channel? I admit I've never heard of it. It sounds like it could be a kind of totalitarian Daily Mail thing where 'Weekly Evidenced Paedophile Hunt Weekly' presented by Noel Edmonds draw 25 million viewers...!
The Community Channel only exists at the crap end of the cable / satellitte / freeview spectrum. In the US, they would call it public access television.
Basically, they're usually run by do gooding sandal eaters 'showcasing' the talent and issues of the local community via the medium of badly shot, badly edited and badly produced home grown programming.
So crappily obscure, that even Lord Summerisle (got your name right this time - give me a gold star) in his infinite wisdom has never heard of it. Which is a good thing.

Although I haven't seen it for a bit, I used to like Newsnight Review. I especially loved how Tom Paulin managed to intepret every film and book as a strident attack upon Israeli foreign policy.

You quickly forget some of the best sitcoms ever come from our friends across the pond. I do often wonder though who on earth watches CSI so I am with you there!
In the early days CSI was quite entertaining. Alas, they flogged the format to death.

I remember watching two episodes and becoming painfully bored almost to the point I turned over and watched some of the Ashes cricket. Now that is boring!
