New Graham Linehan Interview.... Page 2

Graham's right on a few things there. Sketch Shows on the whole are shite at the moment. The best sketch shows have been the ones that didn't have too much repetition. Big Train, The Sketch Show and of course Flying Circus. Also, there is a lot of shit on BBC 3.

Maybe he doesn't like the American version.

It's equally as good as the British version though, if not better. And of course Arrested Development was produced this decade, that is ten times better than The Office or anything the UK has produced this decade. I think Linehan is talking out of his bottom on that one.

I quite agree.

Linehan should spend less time blogging and bitching and a bit more time on his 'proper' writing.

Here, here! That last series of The IT Crowd was good but not as good as it coulde have been. There was plenty of lazy stuff that could have been worked through better. And he could do with losing a few pounds. Wouldn't hurt to exercise.

He's a big man but he's out of shape.

Perhaps he could sit in a car and whistle Rule Britannia.

Perhaps he could sit in a car and whistle Rule Britannia.

Or perhaps Michael Caine could come out of retirement - or whatever it is he calls those films he makes now2 - and throw him off a multi-storey carpark?

If not him, perhaps Stallone could come and do it unconvincingly.

I like the way this thread has turned into discussing the murder of Graham Linehan.

I'm sure there's time for all three things in his average week.

There was somebody at the RFTTP thing yesterday who looked like a junior version of Graham Linehan. So if somebody does murder him, there's another one to take his place.

I definitely disagree with you about that.

He might have a point about Curb Your Enthusiasm. But there have been good American comedies this decade. The Office. Arrested Development. 30 Rock. I guess Flight of the Conchords since it's funded by Americans.

I think I agree. Maybe AD isn't actually ten times better than any UK sitcom this decade, but I can't think of any new brit sitcom since the turn of the century that beats it.

I'd say he does, I like Curb but the amount of love for it baffles me a little. It's good, I think, but not great. Not Seinfeld great.

I wonder what brit sicoms from the last ten years could actually top that impressive trio? I'm not sure any could, though some shows, such as the brilliant Peep Show, would come close.

One of the reasons I love Seinfeld more than Curb is Jason Alexander. His performance is sublime.

It is a great trio. And all laugh out loud stuff, which britcoms have struggled to do in recenyt years/decades.
