Langham, can we forgive him? Page 3

I agree. But there are levels of badness to these crimes. Don't lump them all in together. They're just plain different.

Just to provoke the rednecks a little - because I've often wondered what it would be like to be pullled out of bed in the middle of the night and hung from a tree, by burly men with shallow brainpans - what exactly do you imagine that is so terrible about Langham? He broke the law by looking at illegal images.

He didn't make any, he didn't disseminate them, and most importantly he didn't commit any paedophillic acts. Shouldn't our anger be reserved for the men and women who coerce/hurt/rape/assault the children?

Sorry, not buying that one. The very thought that an act of active curiosity and participation can be separated is not a reasonable argument. The 'redneck' analogy was a cute remark especially in the way you justified it. There is NO excuse for what Langham did in exactly the same way there is no excuse for those who try to do the excusing.

Well, if there weren't people downloading the images, there would be fewer kids getting raped and video'd for download... there are some nasty folks making a lot of money systematically abusing kids because creeps like Langham get their credit cards out...

It must be useful for you coming on here where you can learn the simple facts of life! If you have any more questions, please ask again! :)

Langham at home, nothing to do. Thinks 'I'd like to rent a video... I'll get Aladdin... No I'll rent the video'.

Are you sure you're not related to Bob?

Quote: Skibbington von Skubber @ August 3, 2007, 5:15 PM

No there wouldn't be. I saw an article in a newspaper about 10 years ago which reported that the rapes are committed mostly by dads and granddads and uncles. They don't rape the children for money and they don't film the rapes for money. They film the rapes for trophies and for "bragging rights". They upload the images and videos for free in forums at places like Usenet. And then organized crime syndicates copy the files for free and sell them via subscription websites like the ones Langham and Pete Townsend accessed.

I suspect Langham will top himself around the Christmas holidays.

Well, if it was in the paper 10 years ago, I guess it must be right...

We have a law, Langham has broken it, he's been caught, he's admitted the crime, the jury has given it's verdict, the judge has passed sentence...

As for Langham topping himself, no reason why he should as he's admitted the crime he's been found guilty of. He's not innocent and so he's been sentenced accordingly.

What's his problem?

What a cheerful thread, if only all of them could be like this. Personally I don't give a monkeys, people's views on punishing Langham are fine and its the reason we have the law to stop mob justice. Painting Langham as the victim is just dumb and stupid. Criminals can be victims but in cases such as these they clearly aren't.

Agree 100%. Heard the new take on the Good Samaritan? The guy sees the bloke bleeding to death, says that's awful, gotta help the person who did this.

PS No Leevil I ain't related to Robert, I just seem to have a scarily good memory for jokes I heard several billion years ago.

So why did the trilobite cross the road? :)

PS your good samaritan idea is beautifully funny and so true.

Hmmmmmm, guilt? Shame? Public humiliation? Stained?

Or maybe he'll be sighing with relief that he got off with some of his crimes and be wishing that he'd got clean away?

Who really knows?

Who really knows?

We are looking at it from the outside...

Chris Langham knows and hes looking at it from the inside... of jail.

Ill still be able to watch and enjoy his old stuff, because some of it was really good; whatever he is or is not, and whatever he may have done, has no bearing on whether I will like his stuff or not. Obviously he did a terrible thing, and will now be duly punished, but thats not going to stop me laughing at something he was in. Im not going to bay for his blood, because his life has no bearing or affect on my own, and because im a rational human being. So hell get the punishment he deserves for his crimes and more than likely never appear in a new TV show again; but I dont think his output should be wiped from the slate as if it never existed.

Nonce. No defence.

Nonce Sense

My personal opinion, i don't hate him, and i am glad he turned out not to be a paedophile. I believe he downloaded the pictures willingly for research, in doing so he broke the law. But i don't buy that he downloaded them because of his past experience as an abused child. If something that horrific happened to you, seeing other children in the same position IS NOT going to make you feel better unless you are a paedophile. So, i think he made up that excuse up in desperation, but i don't condemn him.
