Does it feel like summer where you are? Page 2

Aww. I was in Hamburg yesterday. The weather was lovely indeed. Not too hot.

Got hot in the evening when Hamburg showed Manchester how to play football.

Heh. I met two blokes from Manchester at the hotel reception who'd been at Old Trafford the night before and were in town for the HSV - City match. Poor guys. At least the weather was good and the hotel was near Reeperbahn. :)

Not too pleased about the 3-1, though, as I'll be at the stadium on Sunday watching them play against (my) VfB Stuttgart in the Bundesliga.

Assume you mean good for the two blokes that the hotel was near the Reeperbahn.

Yes. :)

The weather is like that in the UK all of the time - warm one day, bloody freezing the next - that's why we're all obsessed by it. If it gets up to 77F for more then 3 days in a row, our infrastructure literally melts.

Are you in southern Texas Dabutt? I'm only asking because I'm fascinated by the stories of Mexican gangs crossing the border to kidnap wealthy Americans. And how the stories are being covered up in the US for fear of increasing racial tensions.

Is this actually happening or is it overhyped?

There have been many cases of stories being covered up, in the U.S., and even here in Britain, for fear of increasing racial tensions. I've got a female friend, who lives in New York, who has told me about some of these stories. She's white, but she's married to a Puerto Rican guy, who grew up in Harlem, so there's no way she's racist.

One incident she told me about, was last Halloween, when various new members of the infamous Bloods gang, went around the city, slashing innocent members of the public, as part of their initiation into the gang. Many people claimed the stories were just an urban myth, to scare people on Halloween, but my friend told me it was all true. Actually, another reason she thinks it was covered up, was because the powers that be didn't want to scare away potential buyers of property in the area.

She also told me about a massive gang of black and Puerto Rican teenagers, who had been running around Brooklyn, attacking white kids, and shouting racial abuse as they did it. This wasn't even mentioned on the news.

As for here in Britain, does anyone remember the innocent teenage lad in Glasgow, who was bundled into a car, by a group of Pakistani blokes, and was tortured and killed? For some reason, the story hardly got any coverage on the news.

Could be because of copy cats. Or to prevent racial tension.
When a twat goes into a school and starts shooting then it's all over the news you can guarantee it will happen again within the next couple of weeks.
Kids in Germany never used to throw stones from motorway bridges until something was on the news about American kids doing it. Shortly after there were a few stone related motorway deaths on the German Autobahn.
Back on topic, lovely and warm here in Hamburg Wave

Does your friend believe in the Easter Bunny, too?

I do. A pretty sad state of affairs on many levels.

Snopes is almost as much ridiculous speculation and conjecture as the 'rumours' it examines. It presents its own opinion as indisputable fact, and a sadly large number of people accept it.

I think as Dabutt says it's overhyped. I was quite shocked to come across this though: http://crime.about.com/library/blgunquiz_tx.htm

They'll update their website if facts don't support their conclusions. How likely is it that women were being slashed and the press refused to report it? Can something like that really be kept secret? Remember, this is a country where the president can't even get a blow job in the Oval Office without it making the news.

The story about the slashings reeks of rumor and it'll stay that way unless it can be proved to be true.

I scored 100%. Fairly straightforward.

Not at all summery today. Unimpressed

Actually, if you ever speak to a real New Yorker, they'll tell you that the city's gangs have been doing this type of thing for years. Check out this story, from 12 years ago: http://www.nydailynews.com/archives/ny_local/1997/11/02/1997-11-02_box_cutter_slash_cut_to_his_.html

I know plenty of New Yorkers and have visited the city many times. People have been slicing and stabbing each other since knives were invented, but that does not prove the validity of rumors about mass slashings and racially motivated cover-ups.

Slightly peaky in the wind :)
