Ah yes, fair enough then.
That was the most non-brutal video of police brutality I've ever seen. I've fallen harder than that tripping over my own shoelaces.
But that's the sophisticated, normally well-mannered British police service against one single man. Quite different in its context.

It still appears to have been an extreme over reaction, on the video evidence at least, and so wrong. Just because he's a police officer, doesn't mean it's ok to run at someone, who has their back to you and is walking away, and push them to the ground.

Having food poisoning which has stopped me driving up to my friends for our road trip tomorrow so now I have to get up even earlier tomorrow morning. 
TTPYO: Ellie's misplaced sense of loyalty will make her get in the car and drive across the country at stupid o'clock even if she is projectile vomitting, and then she'll complain about not feeling well next week.

To be fair, I wouldn't have blamed him if he'd shot them all in both legs. And arms. And any other bits he fancied.
Yikes.
However, apart from the fact that they happened to be in the area by the time he left his house and pranced around the premises, on what basis did he decide that they were the killers of his dog? Unless that article is missing a substantial fact, it sounds like the "kill now, ask questions later" attitude which has done the US oh so much good in its international reputation.
Oh, and he's obviously a danger to society and should be locked up. His only saving grace was that, for whatever reason, he didn't actually shoot at the car.
Did it not say he saw them do it??

The cops charged the men with the crime, so it's fairly obvious that there was evidence that they killed his dog. They also taunted him when he confronted them and they're suspects in other animal killings. They're scum, he's a well-trained professional with more self-control than I could muster in such a situation.

Sorry Aaron, have to disagree.
I think his calculated actions proved that he was in control of the situation, others may have viewed the intruders as a potential threat that had to be neutralized quickly.
Also locking up ex Special Forces because they may be dangerous isn't an answer, these people don't deserve that sort of treatment. The fault lies with the military, huge costs are involved on training up just one member for such a unit but when it comes to letting them go back into the normal world then they are virtually forgotten by the people who trained them and get very little support. Suicide rates for these people are alarming. Locking up? No, Reconditioning? Yes.

'Reconditioning' was the point I was trying to get at, yes.
