It's like watching a stand up die on stage.
THANK you.

I agree with your 'no laughter' rants too, but you're doing such a good job I didn't want to interrupt.

Sorry I did rant didn't I? It's only because I love RD so much though.
We all do. Well, I do anyway. If they f**k it up we can storm the BBC and take our revenge.
I'm still clinging to the straw that it's a rehearsal or someting.
Maybe, once it's broadcast, someone can add a laugh track and up it to YouTube.
Looks like the '5 minute preview' was hannded out yesterday on USB sticks to those who turned up at Berkeley Square yesterday to see the crew and Carbug. I don't reckon it's the finished article.
*hopes*
EDIT; Thought I'd stick this here too.
Red Dwarf: Back to Earth - Resolving the Series 8 Cliffhanger in the Dave Specials.
I'm not watching it now, I'll wait until after the specials (in case they cover it).
I just saw a clip of the specials on ITV, and I'm not happy. I will be out with a mob (albeit a very small, geeky one) and flaming torches if there's no laugh track.
Quote: Gluben @ April 9 2009, 4:05 AM BSTI think part of the reason for no audience was because they might leak the plot much more quickly after a recording.
Interesting point, but if that were the case then they could easily do a super-secret screening today or tomorrow. That way even if something does leak, info's not going to get very far before the show is actually broadcast.
It's Red Dwarf back on the bleedin telly! Surely we're all sophisticated enough to accept something without a laughter track, are we not?
Yeah but we want to remember it how it was.
It's like a family member dying, you let them go with dignity and respect.
You don't wait 10 years, dig them up and make them dance around at a family reunion with a wig on and a rubber mask.
It should have been left in peace like OFAH when they became millionaires!
I can't see that taking them to Corrie is going to do anything other than make a mockery of the orginal show. Although I would love it to be could and will be watching it all intently.

Not without a laughter track!!!

It's not about sophistication at all. It's about what suits a programme. Now Red Dwarf certainly could work without an audience but the style of the show has to be right. This scene was crammed with gags (many of them poor IMO) so it was completely the wrong style.
Maybe the rest of the eps will be better suited though...
This is the problem with things being taken out of context, isn't it? A few minutes watched on a computer, certain expectations not being met.
Last weekend I watched the extended version of Tikka to Ride, which has no laugh track. Worked perfectly well for me. Just a matter of getting used to it.
It doesn't render the content ineffective.
