I have one of those Logitech remotes that can be programmed via USB cable and a computer. It works wonderfully.
Flat Screen TV Page 2
The ones with the colour display? I'd get too distracted by that to be able to watch the TV.
Quote: DaButt @ April 6 2009, 10:09 PM BSTI have a 46" Samsung LCD and it looks great. Now it seems small and I'm thinking about a getting a 65" model in a year or two.
I was drooling over a 65" screen this weekend. I do want one oh-so-very much.
Thanks, chaps, this is all very useful. Haven't made my mind up on a model yet but I feel far better informed now. Time to dig £500 from the hooker jar.
I just bought a 50 inch Samsung for the office for about £700. It's awesome!
*drools*
I haven't even got a flat screen.
I'm still old school at the moment, I spent all my money last year partying around the world and now am paying the price, oh how I would love to watch TV on a flat screen...
I've still got an old Sony Trinitron 21", which works very nicely indeed. However, I'd love to have a large widescreen TV. I'd go for a 100hz plasma, I think. I've heard the Panasonic Vieras are very good. I'm beginning to feel that I'm missing part of the picture when watching widescreen films on my Sony, which is true, so the lure of the widescreen TV is building up.
Apparently screen burn is more likely in the early days of the set, or so I've read. If you get a 32" TV then you have to sit 3x32" = 96" away from the set, so the size of your room decides what size to get. Anyone believe in the bigger the better?

I've always read that you must sit 1.5x the diagonal size of the screen away from the set to be able to discern full 1080i/p quality. My 46" set looks fine from about 10 feet away, but it looks better at 6 feet.

Nor I.

I think the 3x away rule is for health reasons (eyestrain etc), rather than for full appreciation of the picture quality. That's what the assistant in the TV shop told me.
Maybe the secret camera he installed on the TV, doesn't have zoom?
Based on average/normal eyesight, the rule is 6x screen height for standard TVs and 4x for HD sets. Whilst eye strain is thus inherent, these recommended distances are for the best appreciation of the screen's full resolution.
