British Comedy Guide

Magazine

Does anyone hear know of or subscribe to a comedy writers/writers magazine?

Are there any good ones out there?

If not lets start one!

Mustard?

I think Mustard has just been discontinued due to the credit crunch.

Is there any magazine that gives insight from comedy writers, highlights competitions, that sort of thing.

So, you could say 'It didn't cut the . . .'

Yeah, anyway . . .

Competition wise, I don't think you'll find a better resource than this very forum.

I don't think one exists - it's a pretty niche subject for a printed publication and there's so much info on the internet.

Broadcast magazine is very good though, especially as the Edinburgh festival approaches.

I seem to remember there was a comedy magazine a few years back that ran for a few issues. I recall seeing it in WH Smiths and the like. Can't remember what it was called though. For some reason I never bought it.

Wasn't this the sort of thing the new thing that took over from 4Talent was planning to provide for a fee? Or have I just dreamt that..?

(More generally,) it's alright, but I'm not sure how good it is for writers; better for producers/tv execs. I certainly don't think I've got any more out of it than I could on-line in the two years I've subscribed.

I just cancelled the subscription as I don't think it's worth the £200 a year they charge now.

Now there's a job I'd like. I already write and design magazines so do one on comedy would be cool.

A PDF one I could muster but not printed. It's not beyond the realms of possibility if we had regular contributors who could be relied upon. ;)

BBC alone say they get 10,000 scripts a year and that doesn't include sketch writers, and song parody writers etc.

And of course everyone who hates writers room. I'm sure there would be a market for it. How many people are members of this website?

I'm sure people on here would make contributions and there are a few who are successful writers, your not all wannabes like me!

I just find Broadcast good for keeping up with current trends which is half the battle sometimes. I wouldn't pay £200 quid for the f**ker though - I have a mate in telly land who sends them on. (When he remembers).

But everything you need to know is already out there on the web, not least this very hallowed portal we're posting on. If you're talking about a free newsletter then okay, but nobody's gonna pay hard cash for it, surely. And I'd stake both my sweet, hot nipples that if you did get any money back, it wouldn't be enough to cover the printing costs.

I am SUCH a miserable c**t today. You should probably ignore me.
Rolling eyes

Well I wouldn't know the first place to start, but if there was a recognised magazine then it could have profiles of writers, TV producers etc.

Stuff more specifically tailored to writers.

I'm not saying I can do it, just can someone else do it please! lol!

Magazines are f**king expensive to print.

But newspapers can be quite cheap - when I ran a paper for the care sector we were printing 20,000 copies for £1800.

Couldn't sell any adverts though so it went bust - quickly!!!!
