British Comedy Guide

Hello from another comedy fan

Hello,

My name is Dave and I am a student writing from the US. Over the past few years since discovering the The Office and Peep Show I have really got into British comedy, and obviously found this site while looking for different shows to check out. And I must say the BSG has never steered me wrong. I'm a big fan of Mitchell and Webb, Gervais and Merchant, Ianucci, Morris, Kay, Pegg and Frost, Fry and Laurie, and of course Cleese. I also enjoy American and Australian comedy. I'm looking forward to contributing my take on British comedy and comedy in general!

Howdy. Sorry to be inquisitive, but what are you studying? Also, if you're a fan of Fry & Laurie, have you watched them in Jeeves & Wooster? And if you're a Wodehouse fan, have you seen the film Picadilly Jim, starring Sam Rockwell? Which leads to my real question: Is Sam Rockwell any good?

Hi flii/Dave!!

Hey flii.
Make sure to check out ALL of Chris Morris's radio output and most of Iannucci's.
Get Gervais & Merchant's XFM radio shows, best thing they've done to be honest.
For Fry check out Saturday Night Fry, Absolute Power and Jeeves & Wooster as someone mentioned up there.

Currently studying history as an undergrad. As for Jeeves & Wooster, I've seen a good number of episodes thanks to netflix. It's great but I still prefer Wodehouse's written word. Never seen Picadilly Jim though, I'll have to check it out. As for Rockwell, he tends to do a lot of stuff under the radar. I thought he was great in Confessions of a Dangerous Mind. He also made a very funny cameo in Stella, one of my favourite America comedies of all time, in which he played a shady mustache dealer.

As an American, the concept of comedy radio is very strange to me. We just don't have that here, but I'll give it a go.

I have no idea what this means, but I like it! :D

Do; there's some brilliant stuff on the radio. As you're already a fan, I'd highly recommend That Mitchell and Webb Sound. :)

The BBC use Radio 4 as a means of testing out some talent quite often so a lot of big names have had shows on radio first.

Chris Morris was arguably a lot better on radio than television, I preferred Knowing Me Knowing You on radio too (but of course I'm Alan Partridge is miles superior to both).

Gervais and Merchant's radio show was pretty similar to the podcast, just miles funnier.
