As far as comedy goes - when I was in high school, my home ec teacher Mrs Mulholland, who was a little... eccentric, showed a clip of the Stippers in the Kitchen sketch to illustarate how not to behave in the class. I was pissing myself, I had never seen anything so funny. The rest of the class was looking at me like I was insane, but they were plebs.

From which show is this?
Morecambe and Wise. I lost my comedy cherry to a large man in glasses.

Yet another Lee Henman victim?
Quote: Aaron @ April 3 2009, 5:32 PM BSTBut ... you weren't actually married. Just typically northern, LIVING IN SIN.
Aye lad, an' it were chuffin' greet.

Many have fallen at the mighty sword of Henmannius.

And he never told me he was married.
Quote: SlagA @ April 1 2009, 6:43 PM BSTThis is just opinion and kinda my (admittedly bizarre) world-view. I think free-will and destiny are the same thing, seen from different angles.
For example, Tuumble bottled the world tour and so met his wife. But he was always going to meet her, because of who he is and the decisions he makes when given a choice.
Replay the scene, time and again - given the same choice, and his then present experience and state of mind - he would always reject the trip. He appears to have made a free choice but was it really free when the outcome was already (imo) predetermined by his character?
For me, life-defining moments are really the wrong way around. Events don't determine the person or the course of their life. It's your character that has already predetermined your choice in any future situation. Choice only serves to reveal our underlying character, to ourselves and others.
For me, in my weird world, destiny and chance are illusion. Character is the substance, that determines your path and your end.
My life-defining / predestined / lucky (take your pick) moments:
Hearing a certain song for the first time. Realising music had an ability to stir me, starting a life-long passion for composing (words or music), and also discovering an ability to experience a set of emotions vicariously.Meeting a particular and beloved creature that changed the way I view the natural world.
The first time I experienced being loved despite what I was, not for what I was.
An interesting theory but as no-one has actually been back in time to be faced with the same choice, we don't know.
If your fiance died, you would no longer have the choice of marriage/no marriage.
If you were made redundant and your firm closed, you could not choose to carry on working in the same job at the same place
If you have just received fantastic news and feel on top of the world, you may make a different choice about something than if you feel desperate. Your choice could also be determined by who it would affect and how you feel about that person at a given time.
If these things are pre-determined then who is in control? Choice is one of the most annoying words used in counselling training (IMO) as the word indicates that you have control and can make an informed decision whereas the reality can often be that you actually have no choice, or rather the options available to you are not ones you would take if you truly did have a choice.
One of my life defining moments was knowing that someone I loved was going to survive.

My brain hurts.

No life defining moments for me, I don't believe there's nothing left but running here again.
Chaos Theory can be a scary thing, if you think about it too much. I used to think about my past a lot, wishing I'd done things differently, even going as far back as my Primary school days, but since my sister gave birth to her son, in September '06, I've stopped worrying. If I'm in any way responsible for him being born, then I'm happy.

My father hit the roof and shot me when I got my sister pregnant.
Shit! I should've worded that differently! You know what I mean, if my life had even the tiniest influence on my sister choosing to take the path that she did, then I'm happy.

I think I agree with this. Nearly all the bad things that have happened to me were out of my control and nothing to do with decisions I've made.

There really is no emoticon that does this justice. Mr Henman, get ready to rock, for I salute you sir.
