Crap towns

I guess many will have seen these books but I wondered if BSGers wanted to make their own nominations. This was inspired by a trip I took on Saturday...

On Friday we took the kids to Stamford in Lincolnshire. This is a beautiful stone town and the place of my birth. We went because the fair was in town and it's a great setting to see the rides right in the centre of town and on the meadows. They had a great time but I spent an absolute fortune!

Anyway, I'd promised to take them on a train on Saturday and under normal circumstances I'd have suggested Stamford as it was quite close but I didn't want another day shelling out for cnady floss, plastic shit and two seconds of mild amusement.

So, to keep costs down, I suggested some other nearby towns. They didn't want Huntingdon which left March, Ely, Spalding, Grantham and couple of others.

They went for Grantham.

I tried to talk them out of it, really I did but Grantham it had to be. £18 later and bag full unhealthy 'picnic' snacks later we arrived. My God, that place looks dreadful these days. We were only there an hour and it rained.

The market was on but it just looked so grim and depressing. The kids were well cheesed off but they got half a sub from Subway and book from 'The Works' for their troubles.

A thoroughly miserable experience. For that reason my nomination for crap town is Grantham. What's yours?

Slough.

Blackwood.

Blackwood.

Are you nominating Richard Blackwood as worst town?!

I've got both the books. Fun but obviosuly written by whiny students not feeling welcome.

Gillingham.

The worst place I've ever seen.

Yeovil.

Stockton-On-Tees

Burton on Trent - the town of beer and marmite

Widnes - one of those town centres where it's only ever sunny after four o'clock on a Sunday afternoon after everything has closed. The sort of place where they open a mall and the first tenants to sign up are Gregg's, Iceland, Peacocks and Clinton bloody Cards.

Incidentally, on my way to London for the last BSG meet-up my coach (don't ask) stopped off at Widnes, Runcorn, Stoke-on-Trent and Milton Keynes. Beat that for a tour of crap towns.

Milton Keynes is ace!

The rest sound crap though. :)

London.

You should of come to sunny Boston :)

You'd of struggled to entertain them even for an hour tho'

We Welcome All :)

I know the surrounding area is stupendously beautiful, but,

Keswick-highlight-pencil museum :S

Pencil museum? Hmmm....
