Production costs? There are only a couple of sets???? Can't see how they can produce a cheaper sitcom.
Not Going Out - Series 3 Page 57
I think I'll cry if that's true! I'd like to think if they are holding episode 8 back til Christmas rather than getting it out of the way then they have a bit of faith in it but maybe I'm clutching at straws. It would be a pity because the quality of NGO is quite a bit above some of the other shows they've produced recently.
That's going to be very odd just having one Christmassy 30 minute episode as the last one, months after the rest have aired.
Pity. What else is there on the BBC now they killed Pulling too?

Life Of Riley...?
BBC Two have Psychoville coming up. New series of That Mitchell & Webb Look too, and Taking The Flak (https://www.comedy.co.uk/tv/taking_the_flak/). I'm quite looking forward to Big Top. https://www.comedy.co.uk/tv/big_top/

More likely at the end of a repeat run of the 3rd series? Or the start of the same?
Anyway, it's all a bit of a rum do isn't it? Radio Times was advertising episodes 1/8, 2/8 etc etc up until 7/8, and then we didn't get 8/8 - it just disappeared.

Up until just last week, the BBC Press Office was still insisting to us that it wasn't a Christmas special, despite having sent us promotional images with a tree in the background, tinsel, lights... I guess that someone told thepowersthatbe to grow up and push it back.
Perhaps that's because they've cancelled it, if true - they want to keep people hooked on for another 9 months for the final viewer-drawing episode? I dunno. It's late, I should have gone to bed...
Quote: cylon6 @ March 29 2009, 9:40 AM BSTApparently there's a story in today's News Of The World that says Not Going Out has been axed due to production costs! If Andrew Collins is around please say that this is not true!!!
Unlike most things in the News Of The World, I'm afraid it's true. Not Going Out has indeed been cancelled by BBC1.
Well, that's a bit shit. What will they replace that with? Obviously, it won't be another sitcom, so everyone loses out in the long run...

Did they give you the reasons why Andrew? Is it purely down to costs?

Andrew this is terrible news. I'm going to complain and I've never done that before! This is the Royal Television Society winning Not Going Out with more jokes in a half hour than some sitcoms have during their lifetime? This is just ridiculous and you should be very proud of the shows you've done. Really gutted as the show was superb this series.

Utter, UTTER bastards.
Right, who's up for taking Jay Hunt on a nice hunting break in the remote Highlands?
That is shitty news. Bad luck.
Will they still be airing the Christmas Special later in the year?
Bloody better be.
And My Family is back for a new run, Horne and Corden gets commissioned...

Apparently the reason given by a BBC spokesperson in the News Of The World was costs. At the end of the day, it's always the numbers that get you. (I've experienced the tyranny of numbers before with Grass, which never came back for a second series due to the numbers not being consistent - even though it went out at a different time every week on BBC2, Saturday nights, due to being coupled with the Nation's Favourite Sitcom and some snooker.)
Fact: the audience figures for NGO were gradually rising and have been since show one, series one. This goes against the trend for new comedies, and for old ones - most shows start high and gradually lose viewers. We went out with our highest ever figures.
I'm not going to say anything negative about the BBC, as I rely upon them for a lot of other work. That's the God's honest truth. Those of you who don't, however, can say what you like.
