Oh THAT episode. I know what you mean now. Yes, that was a tiny bit annoying in places. Almost too farcical, if that can be said of Fawlty Towers.
Those big comedy 'moments' Page 2

Because you knew that it could go wrong at any moment?

Thankies.
One of my fav's is in Fawlty Towers:
The car breaks down and is given a damn good thrashing.
It's a combination of great angst, physical comedy and razor-sharp observation. I'm old enough to remember when cars were that crap and seemed to taunt the owner on a daily basis. I once had a Vauxhall Viva that I'm sure was in cahoots with Satan!!!!

Dunno. Probably because it's so slow moving and confined to just a few of the sets rather than moving around constantly. Plus, naturally, there was very little Sybil in it.
Partridge and the two TV peeps from Ireland, entering the mentalists shrine room and taking it all in.

Sorry Aaron, but that's atrocious.
Smith and Jones sketches, especially some of their 'Head To Head' duologues don't get much an airing thesedays. The first 3 series of Alas Smith and Jones was written by the cream of British Comedy writers.
Doubt that the 'Achmed and June' sketch would air thesedays though. Pity.
On Not Only But Also 'The Making Of A Film' and the Greta Garbo spoof documentaries are genius from Cook and Moore.
So many faves for me - and mostly visual gags.
Rik Mayall in Bottom falling down the stairs whilst pretending to be Kilroy still makes me chuckle.
Jim and Twiggy doing Mambo Number 5 in the Royles.
Meldrew's puppyphone.
Kryten sucking up a penny with his groinal hoover attachment.
Father Ted's hitler / window scene
Father Jack's glasses being stolen by the bird
Del Boy's sex dolls self-inflating in the back of his car
The huge inflatable cock in Pheonix Nights
Partidge's chocolatey face

True story. When I was in college the head of music called an extra lecture just before Christmas. We were well chuffed I tell you. So we dragged our sorry arses to the music room took out our manuscript pads and waited expectantly to be bored. So he comes in whacks the TV on and shows the 'Andrew Preview' sketch. Then he broke out some beers and eats. Twas good and one of my faves ever me thinks.

Hell yeah!
Been rediscovering Phoenix Nights of late. The Office stole its thunder big time but I think Kay and co. provide more comedy moments.
For me, Tubbs suckling a piglet in The League Of Gentleman was a real wtf!? moment. Also I find Gerald the gorilla sketch pretty much perfect.
Ones that grate: Del and Rodney/Batman and Robin, Dead Parrot for its ubiquity and 'Mambo No 5' dancing scene in The Royle Family... I always have to skip that. Just urgh.

All of which subscribe to Badge's Law. I'm counting L&H cos it's part of a bigger piece (incidentally, my favourite L&H film - great pick, Lee!)
Was never a fan of One Foot in the Grave, I used to find it's pacing incredibly lacklustre and the humour too 'Middle England'. The only things I found worse were Hyacinth Bucket and Victoria Wood.
Having said all that, I did catch the ending of one episode of One Foot in the Grave which entertained me. Angus Deayton wakes up and finds a load of Garden Gnomes on his lawn and shoots them with a H&K MP5 sub-machine gun.
As I didn't see what happened earlier in the episode, I don't know how the Garden Gnomes got there or how the disgraced host of HIGNFY got his hands on a full auto SMG, but it did amuse me.

You really need to order the DVD and watch One Foot In The Grave properly. It's exactly one billion miles away from Hyacinth.

Agreed.
