Earth hour!

In case no here knew about this, Saturday 28TH March is Earth hour day. It's an annual event started last year and the idea is to turn off all lights and unplug all non essential electric equipment for one hour from 8.30pm to 9.30pm. Just so you are in the know!

Edited cause I can't tell time.

And knowing is half the battle.

Is this an optional thing btw?

Yes. No one is going to come to your house at 8:31pm with guns.

My sister has been obsessing about this for weeks.

Be a nice change from usual Friday then.

And miss the last half of Gardeners World, maybe next year.

You can always do it after Gardeners world or even before! An hour is an hour!

I never turn lights on anyway, so I figure I'm good.

Can I do it when I go to bed? that way I'll not be inconvienced.

I have a dimmer. Ooooo.

Me too.

Was annoying when I got it having to explain to everyone you don't need to rewire the whole house for a dimmer cause it works on the same wires. It just controls the amount of power.

Did you sniff and rub your nose before you explained? everyone know sparkies alway sniff before explaining techincal stuff.

Won't affect me. I only turn the light on for sex.

My brother is an electrical engineer for a major power company and he says that short exercises like this do nothing to actually save electricity - the generators are still turning.

There's a lot of excess power generated at night that just gets wasted. My brother told me about a plant that uses the excess electricity at night to pump a small lake uphill to a reservoir. The lake is drained during peak electricity consumption periods and the water generates electricity as it falls. Then the cycle is repeated the next evening.
