:D

He'd have probably stabbed you though.

(Blimey, I'm so tired I almost wrote "shagged" then. Still, maybe he would have... The deviant.)

Laughing out loud

Obviously, none of us can be trusted with anything. Ban everything just in case we have a thought that goes against the norm.

Imagine the number of lives that will be saved.

Oh yeah, this argument also came up with the publishing and subsequent filming of a Clockwork Orange. Laughing out loud

Ah but that is someone moderating content on their own website. Anyone is perfectly welcome to go set up their own websites where they can spell badly, misuse apostrophes and ban capital letters from thread titles as much as they want.

That's entirely different from censoring the internet itself.

Hmm that about deconstructed my arguement.....

I'm off to the pub good night everybody!

Each person should censor themselves.

As I recall it came up in the context of an assault and a gang rape which showed evidence of direct imitation of the film.

I look forward to reading Herr Frtitzel's blog.

Thing is idiots will be inspired by anything. And at that point do we ban the Bible and the Catcher in the Rye. Ultimately if I kill people with a shovel, banning shovels won't stop me killing people. I'll just use a rake instead.

I am not necessarily advocating censorship, as that is highly problematical, but I do think it is naive to argue, "that it does not matter what people are exposed to if they are going to do terrible things they will do terrible things anyway." The item on Newswipe about the media's treatment of serial killers is a useful illustration of how monsters are nurtured.

If exposure to violent or degrading images piques your interest, you will seek out stronger images, cross new boundaries. You might reach a point at which you recoil, or you might keep going. Some will simply lose themselves in a realm of unhealthy fantasy; others will seek out opportunities to live the dream.

Um, should we ban the News then? Huh?

No, but the media could be more responsible in their reporting. Did you see the item on Newswipe? it was very good.

The Newswipe is a good example of needing a pressure group to encourage more responsible reporting.
