If it was the prisoner reacting to the cards, "oh God no, its the death card, I'm going to die"
and the guard pacifying him, "not necessarily, it may just mean a change of vocation" or some such, before the evil reveal.

That's great but I think it's a sequel more than an alternative, actually I really like that one. I could picture a 3rd part where they're playing chess and the guard wins by executing him maybe?

Nice idea.
All we need now is someone famous to be executed, and we can send it to T/S as a runner.

I think his head came off when they hung him? Poor Old Taruq Ali is the current fella for the chop (or dare I say the drop). He always seemed nice, but then I thought Saddam looked like a mischevious uncle.

Another one - The guard wins to execute him - but just before they throw the switch, the prisoner pleads, "Best out of three?"
