British Comedy Guide

Barnet Shuffle

Hi there

I've put my short comedy film I co-wrote and produced on You Tube for viewing in 2 parts :

Part 1 : http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=9ov4S3LULdw

Part 2 : http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=CQPfwEtedKw

(16 minutes both parts in total so let the stream finish before viewing. The quality is not the best)

It stars Mark Burdis (Operation Good Guys) Siobhan Hayes (My Family) and Claire Goose (Waking the Dead) and was directed by actor Charlie Creed-Miles.

Let me know what you think

Cheers

Nick

Blimey Nick, if that's poor quality then heaven help us if you ever get access to a budget to make something half decent!

You've got a great cast there and all have acted extremely well making the thing look, IMO, very slick indeed.

I watched both halves and from a production values perspective I enjoyed the overall piece. However I though that the script meandered here and there and lost focus in parts.

The quasi-porno bit I felt didn't really sit with the rest and I was left feeling a bit confused as to the point of the entire piece.

As I have said though, it looked excellent but I suppose I was left with feeling faint echoes with Gregor Fisher's Baldy Man character and a bit confused if I'm being entirely honest.

Mind it is rather late and beer has been consumed. But well done and I'm sure that as a calling card then I doubt if I've seen much better.

Hey thanks Blenkinsop

I think one of the things you mean is when he goes home on the bus and he walks past barbers and sees the Roman. He also walks past a sex shop but this isn't entirely clear (mainly cos we filmed it in soho and it's difficult to shoot round there without permission) All these things appear in his dreams later on so that's the significance.

Thanks for your views

I watched both halves. The look is professional. The actors are very good. Congratulations on pulling this off! People showed up, knew their lines, performed them well. Your crew showed up and did a good job.

It was a fantasy with a humorous aura. I'm sure many on this board laughed. I wanted to. But I did smile a lot at the gleaming production values & results. You guys are kicking ass. Keep at it.

I loved it!

It's funny, quirky and original.

Great acting, production and writing. Congrats and well done!

I just sat back and really enjoyed it:D

veeery impressive. Well done. Where are you going with this now? It deserves to go further than youtube definately.

actually, who produced this? Must've been a reasonable budget there.

Wow - that's a slick production there Nicholas! Well done.

I see you managed to get Mark Burdis and Siobhan Hayes involved - you clearly have some good connections.

So like Revilo says, have you got any plans for it?

I took to it straight away. I thought it had a 'Peep Show' feel about it but was still different enough to make it stand out in its own right. I hope you're able to progress with something that does to go far.

Thanks all for your comments. Really appreciated.

This was my first production and we(myself and the director) put up our own money to do it. We were lucky to call in some favours on crew and post production through mates of ours but even then it adds up to a couple of £K. It has been shown in 2 festivals in Scotland and will be shown in the portobello festival in London. But it's difficult to get it shown at the big festivals cos we didn't have any major backing or it doesn't tie in with their 'theme'.

Also, there aren't many comedy festivals in the UK that only shows films so it's hard to place.

Next we're doing a short comedy sketch with Mark again and Charlie the director (you might remember him as an actor from Nil by Mouth and Essex Boys)under the same company.

Just trying to get it out to as many people as possible and maybe onto cable TV.

Propellor TV and Community Channel do longer pieces. Try them.

Wow - thought it was excellent. Good quirky script, well acted (not surprisingly), great wigs, and a couple of hot chicks to boot - the quasi porn part sat very well with me (cough, splutter)! Favourite part was Mark Burdis as Caesar - all hail Mark! Anyway congratulations - must be very satisfying. Is it showing at Soho Shorts?

It's too long for Soho shorts. Their limit is 12 minutes, this is 16. Showing at Portobello.
