I'm sure it's possible. But as I found out the other night, you have to have a signal from the dish to be able to watch recorded programmes, I think it maybe down to needing a signal for the EPG (TV guide). I'm sure you could get around this on a computer though?

Thats probably due to sky software. The data shouldn't need external manipulation once it's there to allow it to be accessed. I'm intriqued now might go research

I'm out of my league here because I'm not in the UK, but here in the U.S. it's generally not possible and I wouldn't be surprised if the same is true for the UK. Recordings are somehow encrypted/locked to a specific PVR.
Changing the internal drive or adding an external drive is usually allowed and not too difficult. There are all sorts of PVR hacking websites for U.S. devices, so I assume the same is true for your gear.
This site looks like it has info for upgrading drives:

I would also assume there was a form of encryption on th files maybe they are compressed or need a specific codec but everything can be emulated Data is there to me used Cheers for the link as well dude

Actual encryption isn't something an emulator can handle.
My only experience was hacking old DirecTV Tivo boxes 4 or 5 years ago. It involved lots of hacking and Linux commands, but the end result was a larger hard drive, wireless connectivity and the ability to export the video files to a computer.
I just gave up my cable TV account, so now I just download shows from which some kind has thoughtfully removed the commercials. But my cable provider's DVR would allow you to attach an external drive that could be used to increase recording capacity. The video was only able to be viewed on that specific device; attaching it to another DVR would simply bring up a prompt to reformat the drive and pair it with the new device.
Robyn *keeps* being told to see the updated terms of use, when she's already looked. Has she missed something?
I think it's been set up to stay there for a period of time, rather than until you've read it.
Whether that was on purpose or not I don't know! When Aaron gets back I expect he'll enlighten us.
Does anyone else keep getting disappointed they don't have a PM, or is it just me?
Just you.

No, I don't keep thinking that.

It is not dynamic. I will remove the message in a couple of days.
It will drive Elliot mad.
