If all else fails, ever thought about being a postie? Probably not!
But if it does appeal, punch in your postcode and how far you can travel and see if anything tickles your fancy... a' hem, so to speak.

Your post indicates you can spell, so why not consider doing a course in the Teaching of English as a Foreign Language? Then apply online with companies such as English First to become an English teacher abroad, especially in Asia or South America. There are loads of no-hopers living fairly comfortably and happily abroad as expatriate English teachers. And if you're deterred by the notion of teaching noisy brats, many classes are for adults and business professionals. I'm not an English teacher (and never have been), but I know plenty of people from the UK, the US, Canada and Australia who have escaped their mundane lives "back home" by becoming teachers in sunnier climes with much lower costs of living (cheaper cigarettes, alcohol, food, rent, dirt cheap pirated DVDs, etc) and fewer work hours. If you're half-way competent, a few years of loyal teaching for the same institution generally seems to lead to managerial promotion and better pay.
Just a suggestion.

I'm out of work, have been since the end of January. Left my last job cause no amount of money was worth me feeling the way I did at the end of the day working there. Not the best time to leave but couldn't stand it anymore. I've been asked back, I refused though.
So, I apply for jobs but keep being told I'm a day too late to be considered. I've started to apply for anything. I never hear back. I spend most of my time at home and am constantly looking up stuff on the internet to fill my day (porn).
I live in the Norfolk area, I can turn my hand to anything and yes, yes I am desperate. So if you know of anything then let me know. Thanks.
(You may now come back with your "funny" answers).
Meldrum, it's shit at the moment jobwise, but my advice to you would be to decide what you REALLY want to do with your life, then take any old shitty job that pays the bills until you're in a position to move into the fast lane. (Or the slow lane, or whatever lane that will make you happy.) That way you're always in the state of mind that says "This is just a stepping stone", which is a good place to be I think. Stepping stones are safe. When you're on one, you're not drowning at the bottom of the pond and neither are you leaping into the great unknown, to use an unfortunate froggy analogy.
Remember though, just having a purpose makes it all worthwhile.
For those people who actually DO know, at what point did you decide/realise what you really want to do with your life?
Could it be when you realise there's nothing else you want?

I think for me it was in 1996, when I was sat in a dole office in Southport, awaiting an interview for a crisis loan of £25 to pay for a new cooker. A wino sat in front of me had a fit and puked all over the carpet. I was wearing odd shoes.
That's when I thought "I don't want to write comedy anymore"
Joke!!!! I wasn't writing comedy then. I was at rock bottom after a failed relationship and I think that was the turning point where I decided to chase my dreams.
Like a wino in the dole office, chasing his breakfast?

Blimey. How old were you?

25.
And I feel I'm lost, at 21. :/

You are nought but a pup, young Aaron. With the whole world laid out out ahead of you like an infinite field of milky, squirty nipples.
Suck 'em dry my son.
Haha! Well that works on the assumption that I possess some kind of ... ability. Which, alas, I do not. And following the now-almost-complete experience of university, I no longer have much of an idea for the future at all.

The best jobs just sort of fall in your lap. I never planned to join the Army, but I knocked up my girlfriend at 22, enlisted, learned the SATCOM business and here I am 25 years later with a great job that I enjoy. I was out of the satellite business for 12 years during which I attended university (electrical engineering) and later found myself working on the copy desk at a newspaper. I could easily have made a career in the writing/editing game, but I'm not a fan of deadlines and geek work is easier and more fun.
The best jobs always seem to come via friends. Even if you feel that you won't fit in, all it takes is a positive attitude and a good work ethic.
Quote: Aaron @ March 17 2009, 5:58 PM GMTWhat the f**k? Volunteering for charity can affect what benefits you can claim? As if further proof were needed that this country is right up the shitter.
Well that came in under Thatcher.
How ever if you choose to volunteer more longterm with Shelter, Keyring, YHA or CSV (and others) they offer volunteer contracts. Where they pay your living expenses (usually more than dole) and give you accomadation in exchange for 40 or so hours a work.
It's a great way to live some where else for a year or so gain skills and have fun.
I did these schemes with the Simon Community (not so reccomended) and CSV (reccomended).
