Can anybody write? Page 3
Obviously most people can't write well, just like most people are crap at drawing or acting.
But I think most people could come up with fantastic ideas.
I'm good at drawing. I can't act tho.
I'm good at drawing!
Shit at writing and acting.
And ideas.
Erm... silent animation?

As for slap bass, most of the hit sitcoms of the last few years were written by Mark King from Level 42 under a pseudonym.
That explains it. Great bass player... shit sitcom writer!

You could always 'write' down your scripts etc. as hieroglyphics.
I prefer my sitcoms a little more Pastorius-ish with a little bit of Claypool and Levin satire.

I had a feeling you'd be in agreement with that sentiment!
Anyone can write
even if it's just shite
some well liked hits
are by talentless shits
One thing not mentioned yet is luck. There are an awful lot of people out there, many using this site, who can probably write a pretty funny script. It might not be the next Fawlty Towers or Alan Partridge, but it's at least as good as the latest Friday night BBC1 offering. The trouble is, how do you get noticed? How can you stand out from the crowd in an already massively overcrowded field? Often it can come down to a piece of luck - a producer noticing your script on the slush pile, etc - that gets you noticed and allows you to get your foot in the door.
Just to clarify, when i said 'write' I meant write quality stories whether it be through novels, short stories or screenplays.
I didn't mean just being able to write your own name!
Thanks, CnotiasnNtsu

Well, thats a different point altogether. I was just talking about having the ability, being recognised for it is a whole new kettle of boiling water (why do people say fish?).
Linking it back to this, I would say you need luck to be able to write as you don't choose how or where you are born, or your upbringing, or a lot of your experiences.

Let me help you out there It's because kettle ( Old Norse: Ketill ) just means a metal cooking pot. When the expression oriiginated, Russel Hobbs didn't exist.

This is why I come to these forums!

I wear a trent coat and shout allah
Obviously you can't learn talent, but the art of writing is something to be learned. I've posted two scripts on here and they were absolutely awful. I took the feedback on board, then bought a book on sitcom writing and the script I am currently writing is a million times better.
