Haha not likely, my father was in the forces I am no good with the discipline.
My dad was in the navy! Didn't torture anyone, except maybe some fishies whilst living it up in the Carribean, but I doubt he did anything particularly heroic either.
(Aside from fathering me, clearly.)

No. Just f**k right off. Climbing a mountain (not even a particularly big or harsh one), no matter the reason, does NOT make you a f**king hero.
NOT HEROES
HEROES
Grrrr.
Bang on Aaron. Utterly right. Any man who jumped off a landing craft, June the 6th, 1944, on to beaches riddled with machine-gun fire, any man who flew over Germany while bombers tumbled from the sky around him, any man who died to save his mates, has far more balls than I have, or ever hope to possess. I also acknowledge that heroism isn't just restricted to the Allied side. There were acts of bravery on both sides of the war and when I cry on Rememberance Sunday (or just watching WW2 documentaries) I shed tears for all the wasted lives on all sides... even, dare I say, the French.
I'd love to see Barlow and gang contribute a 'real' proportion of their fortunes rather than watch them jaunt off on a jolly and pester the public to stump up cash while they've just donated their time free-of-charge, or given 1% of their earnings, and then stand on stage to take the plaudits. Donating just 1% of earnings is a figure to be ashamed of, not to be applauded.
I reckkkon, that some of the richer celebrities (like Cowell, etc) probably do give a decent amount of their own money, especially once they've been to Africa/wherever and seen it for themselves. I think it would be hard not to.
But if they have any dignity, they wouldn't tell us about it and make a spectacle of themselves. So... we'll never know either way!
Agreed. But I did hear the 1% pledge on CR tonight. It made me a little agitated. Doesn't take much, eh?
Heh!
Some people really are right little shits. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/devon/7943611.stm

James Doohan! Yes!
At the outbreak of the Second World War, Doohan, aged 19, joined the Royal Canadian Artillery, and was eventually commissioned as a lieutenant in the 13th Field Regiment, part of the divisional artillery of the 3rd Canadian Infantry Division. Doohan went to the United Kingdom in 1940 for what became years of training. His first combat assignment was the invasion of Normandy at Juno Beach on D-Day. Shooting two snipers along the way, Doohan led his unit to higher ground through a field of anti-tank mines and took defensive positions for the night. Crossing between command posts at 11:30 that night, Doohan took six rounds from a Bren gun fired by a nervous sentry:[4] four in his leg, one in the chest, and one through his right middle finger. The bullet to his chest was halted by the silver cigarette case he carried, and his wounded right middle finger was amputated, which he would conceal during his career as an actor.
And this about Boris Yeltsin - why don't we get leaders like this -
He was fond of sports (in particular skiing, gymnastics, volleyball, track and field, boxing and wrestling) despite losing the thumb and index finger of his left hand when he and some friends snuck into a Red Army supply depot, stole several grenades, and tried to dissect them.

Celeb culture must end!
Awwwww, a pink elephant!!!!!
That second one is just silly. You should be able to be called Miss, Mrs or Ms. Whatever. I like Miss.
I do hate when women get called Mrs John Smith though. That's f**ked up. Mrs Smith is enough, surely.
Ok, who'll volunteer for this ridiculous plan?
JONATHON PORRITT, one of Gordon Brown's leading green advisers, is to warn that Britain must drastically reduce its population if it is to build a sustainable society.
Porritt's call will come at this week's annual conference of the Optimum Population Trust (OPT), of which he is patron.
The trust will release research suggesting UK population must be cut to 30m if the country wants to feed itself sustainably.
Porritt said: "Population growth, plus economic growth, is putting the world under terrible pressure.
"Each person in Britain has far more impact on the environment than those in developing countries so cutting our population is one way to reduce that impact."
