The time of day

My opinion of people within 'the industry' has been quite low since the turn of the year, mainly because people I've contacted either haven't bothered to return my calls/e-mails or when they have, they haven't been very helpful.

I contacted a well known writer/performer at the end of January as I'd heard that in the past he had been willing to read scripts from unknown writers. Within my letter I asked if he would mind reading mine. About three weeks ago I received an e-mail from his PA explaining that he was too busy to read the script at this time, but would answer any questions, if I had some.

Not wanting to miss this opportunity I made notes of some questions and e-mailed them over the next day. In my mind I thought I'd probably receive a short response to each of my 6 questions, or not receive a response at all.

Last Friday I received an e-mail from the PA with answers to my questions. The writer/performer in question had given fantasically in depth answers over 4 pages of A4. I was so pleased, this is the first person within the industry to really give me the time of day. When you think of what some people are willing to give in terms of help, and what others are not willing to give - it's quite remarkable.

Wow. Who was it?
I'm sure they won't mind being talked about in such a positive light.
As long as some of us promised not to flood the man with similar things.

That sounds good - who was it? Sounds a decent person to be that detailed and helpful.

Personally, I'd avoid the temptation to publicly name the person but perhaps PM it to people who were curious.
;)

I'd keep it quiet. Because they'll get bombarded and stop doing it.

True.
Although he only answered questions. It's not like the guy read a script or anything. I don't see why millions of people would bombard him.

Well, reasonable people. Yes it's probably best not to make it public here. :)

I'm already on question 532.

I'm already on question 532.

And the first 531 of those are 'Do you like Wales?'.

To quote Woody Allen in 'Crimes And Misdemeanours' (advising his niece not to go into acting)...
"Don't get involved in showbusiness. It's dog eat dog... Actually worse - It's dog-doesn't-return-other-dog's-phonecalls"... Sadly true.

I'm not keen on naming the person to be honest, but was just really pleased that there are decent people working in this industry who are willing to help.
