Can anybody write? Page 2

I believe I can fly, I believe I can touch sky *BANG* (shoots R Smelly)

Anybody can certainly write but I would say that maybe classes can teach the mechanics but can't give you a feel for language if you don't have one. Gav didn't believe fully in himself as a writer until he saw one of his sketches performed and heard the laughter from a paying audience. I think maybe people have a particular affinity for a type of writing - I know that my attempts at serious writing were absolute pish, but comedy felt right immediately. Don't know if this answers your question or not, I'm really just rambling.

For me it's in the genes. As a kid I watched my freelance writer dad suffer the pain of rejection and decided I was never going to do THAT thank you very much! So I made myself miserable avoiding it for years pretending to be really interested in something else. But hey, guess what ...now I'm ecstatically happy being miserable with my own rejection slips!

I think everybody can write but not everybody can write well.

First time script writers tend to get all bogged down in technical detail and make the dialogue sound wooden and stunted.

As my old lecturer used to say "When writing never think classical, always think rock and roll".

Ooh, I like that.

I agree... I'm not a born writer only really being doing it properly for over a year.

it is a talent though some people can write better than others that's why they are on TV and we aren't (by the way I do know people here who are good enough to be on TV but that's another arguement).

But the more you do the easier it seems to become.

As you know I've written all sorts of crap on here but it's practise for quick responses and I feel that the stuff I'm doing for my proper projects is getting better all the time.

In 25 years it'll be brilliant although I'll probably be dead by then.

Oh for **$##** sake! No, not anybody can write! Of course not.

Define 'write'. Sure, a lot of people can string some words together (although looking over some threads on this forum there's an argument against that too!) but it's invariably just meaningless babble.

When I write I don't even think Rock and Roll... I think Jazz Funk!

Whackkka Thrackka Whackka (slap bass). Yeah!

In my opinion, as a piece of writing, this is a fine example of supercilious tripe.

9/10 :) well done!

At a quantum level anyone can write ;)

Only '9'?

Damn... I'm slipping.

I don't think it's possible to write at a quantum level... you'd never know where the heck to find the full stops. :)

Bet your thumb hurts.

After years of playing, I have built up a protective layer of callus which allows me to thwack away to my heart's content... ;)

Hey Darren is this some kind of verbal happy slapping?

This is right on the money.

As for slap bass, most of the hit sitcoms of the last few years were written by Mark King from Level 42 under a pseudonym.
