Has anyone ever been to one and are they worth the money?
Writers Workshops
Moving to a forum for writers.
Sorry a writing themed question in a writers forum hoping to be answered by fellow writers for some constructive feedback, was pretty stupid. Let me try again
What's a scarecrow?

In short, it depends who's running the workshop. If you've got direct input from commissioned writers / producers who know what the Hell they're talking about, then they can be invaluable.
Unfortunately that's often not the case and you get a blind leading the blind situation. I went to one once where the main speaker was a young media-type straight out of Uni. She was full of ideas. Shit ones, mainly.

Did you want her to be full of your penis, mainly?

Yes, in the most cases, they definitely are worth the money. As Lee says, just make sure you choose a course run by an established tutor with many years experience behind them. Our new workshop directory is nearly finished (listing over 50 courses), but if you're after some recommendations in the meantime see Marc Blake's thread: https://www.comedy.co.uk/forums/post/382695
and this thread discussing workshops: https://www.comedy.co.uk/forums/thread/10850
(I'll close this thread as it'd be good if people could keep discussions about workshops in the above thread)
