Sound effects - help!

Hello

This is a bit random but I need to sort out sound effects for Wednesday.

It's a basic domestic setting, and I've downloaded free MP3 samples of phone ringing, doorbell etc but the one I can't find is a simple sound for a mobile text received eg double beep.

I'm not very technical, so excuse my ignorance, but a lot of the sites I've seen have 'wav' samples which I don't think are any good. The 'MP3' ones are great as they go straight onto my iPod (which will make for interesting 'shuffle mode' listening later, when I forget to remove them).

If I can't find it I'll go with something else.

Thanks

Jx

http://www.freesound.org

can try there.

CDex will convert from wav to mp3

http://cdexos.sourceforge.net/

Thanks Gavin

I took a look at that site - again the one I want is Wav - was going to try anyway but it says you have to register first - I went to do that and it said you can't register with a hotmail account. Grrr!

Hi Shoepie - I'm a bit wary of downloading these things but if I give it a try which one do I choose? I'm on Windows Vista but there are various options here:

I only want a beep beep! :)

Thank you

Hi David

Sound Dogs are perfect for a technophobe like me - all MP3 - straight into ITunes.

I think I have what I need now, but it's useful to know all those sites for future reference, thanks.

Yeah. It's a good idea to be careful. I use Cdex and have had no problems, plus it's a widely used piece of software.

Get the 1.51 (release version) and choose the Vista option under the underlined 'installer'.

Just out of context, I have a HUGE array of FX here which I have accumulated. If people want one, just mail me and I'll sort it out. If I have it. Let me know the format though. :)
