I have a friend who becomes a raving lunatic when he's drunk. Sometimes he has Vietnam flashbacks, but most of the time he just runs his mouth in the most inappropriate manner possible. I always left the bar when he'd go up to some guy twice his size and say something like "Do you mind if I f**k your wife? I'll let you watch, if you're into that kind of thing."

This guy even managed to get arrested for riding a bicycle while intoxicated. He mouthed off so badly to the L.A.P.D. officer that he arrived at the Los Angeles jail with a fractured leg. The arresting officer even told the reception clerk at the jail to "lose this guy for a few days."

Now that he's sober he'll readily admit that he deserved every bit of it.

Yes, and that's such a ringing endorsement for the actions of police officers. Sounds like all cops in the US are brutal over-reactionaries.

And many around the rest of the world.

No, you really have to witness my friend's brand of insults to appreciate them. I'm sure they included promises to sodomize the cop's wife, mother baby daughter and puppy. Then there was the challenge to a "take off your badge and let's go at it man-to-man." He lost that one. Most cops wouldn't rise to the challenge, but Harry picked one who would.

I'm sure that 99% of our cops are decent people. But when it comes to an arrest situation you must comply completely and immediately if you don't want to taste the pavement. Until the suspect has been handcuffed and searched he is a potential cop killer and every cop wants to go home when his shift is over.

I'd reckon that 99.9% of the people who shoot cops were in illegal possession of a firearm. Law-abiding citizens who carry handguns don't shoot cops.

If they weren't legal, then the illegal ones wouldn't be so common. What's the difference between one and the other? Just a licence?

Supply and demand. Drugs and uninvited immigrants are illegal and we spend hundreds of millions of dollars and millions of man hours trying to prevent them from entering the country, but they arrive by the boatload and truckload every day.

A license isn't required to own a gun in most parts of the country. A permit to carry a concealed weapon (in the states that allow it) requires several hours of safety and legal training and a proficiency test. Most importantly, it requires a police background check, fingerprinting, a photo, etc. People who go through all of that aren't usually the type to commit gun crimes.
