Laughing at fat people Page 2

Fat jokes are probably dodgy at present.
Obesity is becoming more prevalent, so a greater proportion of your audience will be weight-conscious and therefore won't appreciate the humour.
Instead of naming an overweight individual, why not invent a fat acquaintance/relative and refer to him/her?. I feel an imaginary character will allow you more tolerance.

There are fewer jokes about fat people nowadays as its considered non-pc. Obesity is classed as an illness now you see.

Instead, we have things like 'my quarter ton teenager', purporting to be documentaries, but really an excuse to gawp at fat people.

Yeah, Extraordinary People is their new wording for 'Freak Show'

I think the reason we laugh at it less is because now we have certain factors in our society that were not so in the public eye back then such as eating disorders in children, the size zero debate, obesity problems in Europe, the UK average dress size is now 16, etc. Surprising a lot of people seem to prefer to gun after the the skinny than the large probably from a fear of being accused of promoting a stereotype. I'm not saying they are right, I'm just saying that seems to be the way.

As a former member of the flab club, I can honestly say that when I was larger than life, while comments directed straight at me hurt, if I saw a comic on the TV making a joke about being fat, I still laughed.
