In Ireland it's pronounced to rhyme with sporran, but in the UK it's usually pronounced as rhyming with Duran. And I don't think it's funny. Unless people say it sounds like merangue, and then it is funny.
No. But then I didn't laugh at this, and I rarely hear his name. I was a little amused the first time I heard it though, I suppose.
