Gervais for me. I like Merchant too. I think he has had a big influence on Gervais' work (Agreed that I'm stating the obvious)
I'm not a massive fan of his stand up though, and would probably prefer to see Coogan's character style comedy, given the choice
I do love the podcasts that Gervais and co do though.
Pilkington is real and not scripted or staged They are genuine thoughts and opinions, but I believe he now takes it to the extreme to provoke reaction/book sales/additional podcasts etc.
Yes, he sometimes milks it a tiny bit now.
But it's still essentially genuine.
Coogan all the way. I like Gervais but I go out of my way to find Coogan stuff.

Gervais has lost a ton of weight recently hasn't he? I saw a pic of him of a few days ago and the guy had cheekbones!
He's never been massive. He's just a bit overweight. (And used to be mega skinny.)
