Most pubs are shit, but if you find the right pub then it's lovely.
Even to a curmudgeonly tosspot like me - a few mates, a nice lunchtime beer, really puts you on top of the world.
There's a great little bar near my work that's basically empty in the day and for someone like me - who's spent their life avoiding drink/pub/bars - I now look forward to a few hours a week talking shit and drinking a few lagers.

My dad worked in a holiday camp, and is very proud that he skipped the lowest level, known to him as "the big pot-washer".
And as he's a policeman, that's about the height of his achievements.
The Bank Top Tavern in Oldham - doubt anybody has heard of it.
