Hmmmmm! I haye choices.
Can I have dinner with Coogan & go for a beer with Ricky?
I think I would rather bounce off Coogan but Bounce ideas off Ricky.

Neither of them are producing funny material any more. Saxondale is meandering, derivative and brain-wranglingly average while Extras series two was a smug work-out for the Gervais ego. Don't get me started on his stand-up - if 'ironic' predjudice is genius then Jim Davidson must be a God. I'm not going to start saying 'Gervais iz a right tosser' but he does need to have an urgent rethink.
Definitely Coogan overall.
I can't believe I started this thread two years ago! Seems like only yesterday. Still Coogan, although Gervais has definitely made significant advances in the intervening months.
Gervais will never match Knowing Me, Knowing You.
Coogan everytime.
Anyone else ever see Dr Terrible's House of Horrible?
Saxondale and Coogan's recent live tour don't do him any favours in this debate.
I've seen both live and watched everything they've both done on TV and agree with Zooo at the beginning of this thread that Coogan is a great character actor and Gervais is a a great writer. I really admire and like both, but I think as things stand Gervais is more to my taste by a narrow margin.
I re-read the thread, I'm not sure I ever actually answered the question...?
If not, then it's Ricky.

Yes. And thankfully forgotten.
Quote: zooo @ August 7 2007, 3:28 PM BSTBest at what? They both have their talents.
Coogan's the better actor.
But I actually find Gervais the better writer.
And I'd want to be mates with Ricky. I think Coogan does that whole tortured artist thing a bit sometimes.
That's the post I was referring to.
It's got to be Coogan. I wonder how much Gervais actually is in "The Office" and "Extras" - both of which are a little too preachy at times - and how much is Merchant. Also, Gervais's laugh gets on my nerves when I listen to their podcasts. Bloody luvvie... >_<

Ahh.
I still wasn't clear enough.
Ricky rools.
Still Coogan for me. He's Alan Partridge for f**ks sake!
was.
Although Coogan is in In The Loop, which looks like being one of the film highlights of the year.

Always will be. He's bound, BOUND to do something on TV with him again one day too.
