I'm sure I'd have managed without, or met people through other means.

WHY was it the biggest mistake of your life?

That's what I was getting at Aaron - I'll spell it in crayons for you next time
Ah. Well, it's just not 'for me'. I am nowhere near intelligent enough, I just can't handle it. I don't know what ever made me think it'd be ok.

Christ. As biggest mistakes of your life go it's pretty feeble. I was hoping for something along the lines of you having to turn tricks to keep up with your spiralling students. And how you caught AIDS and now only have six months left to live.
Anyway, I'm off to the pub....

Well then that just shows how sensible the rest of my life has been, doesn't it?
Quote: Dolly Dagger @ February 26 2009, 9:35 AM GMTI take it that was the old cinema that was converted into a huge pub in the style of a gin palace?
I used to drink alot (meaning often and large quantities) in the Holloway Road pub opposite the uni. We'd go there for lunch and miss the afternoon lectures.
That's the one.
Now a Wetherspoons.
Quote: billwill @ February 26 2009, 1:22 PM GMTNow a Wetherspoons.
Which brings us nicely back to the thread topic! I was in my local Wetherspoons last night and had one of their budget meals - ham, egg and chips for 2.99. Nice!
Good place for single old men to hang out, the Wetherspoons. (And I don't mean me, I mean....well, they just do, don't they. Good for them, I say!)

I go to meet some my my old cronies from our days working at the University of London Computer Centre back in the 60s-70s and our new cronies who ring bells at St. Mary Magdalene's church down near Highbury corner on Wednesday evenings.
The last pub I was in was on the beachfront at Bournemouth.
I actually hate pubs. Drinking should be done alone on park benches with your bottle oh-so-cleverly hidden in a brown paper bag.
I went to my first trivia night at a bar last night. I had fun until I realized every team around me was cheating with their Blackberries and Iphones.
And the worst was how proud they were at winning. Assholes. Without them we would have came in second or third.

Get a mobile phone jammer for next time.
