Sketch titles

Are there any particular things to avoid or desire, in a sketch title?

Does it really matter that much? I usually just name mine after their content unless I come up with a little pun or joke at the exact second I'm naming it.

It's not like the title is used in the program or anything.

I wen't through a phase of trying to give all mine Funny/Punny names.
It got to the point where some of the titles were so contrived that I try to avoid that now.
As Chris says the title wouldn't be used in any programme so I don't think it matters that much.

I've read here that by making the sketch title distinctive, you have more of a chance of recognising it in the running order, if lots of others have the same topic.

Yes! listen to that Fred instead.
What he said makes more sense.

don't worry about it. Seriously. I just preface with my initials

so if it was a sketch about a man eating beans it would be

jw beans

i wouldn't give it any more thought than that.

Smart arsed sketch titles always make me smile. They're completely useless but if you view sketch coemdy as an art then why not give it a fancy signature?

I just call them 'The . . . ' and a one or two word description. So if the sketch was about a paramedic with no eyes I'd call it 'The Eye-less Paramedic'.

I imagine (though I've not been told either way) that it's best to give them titles so when the files / sketches can be found easily when they're being searched for.

And when asked about stuff, you know what particular sketch is being discussed straight away without going 'Oh, it's that one where that bloke . . .'

Sometimes a sketch title can give away the central idea or joke of the piece and so ruin the impact for the reader. I think this is best avoided.

Normally a pun for mine.

Just don't give it away then - simple.

Okay then - what would you call a sketch about, say, a greengrocer who's got married to a hamster?

Fur richer or poorer

Sometimes I might think up a funny title, but mostly the titles simply describe the sketch...

...mainly so I can easily locate a sketch in my portfolio on my hard drive.

Who cares, I'm more worried about the hamster splitting on the honeymoon.
