Writing for Newsjack (aka 7 on 7) Page 2

Plus, it's 10 days to come up with a comic gold idea, write and then rewrite it to perfection before e-mailing it in. Which isn't that long.

It's a little tighter than usual is all I'm saying.

Not to me, I'm great. And humble with it.

Hopefully they'll mention this in their blog so we can ask questions. I don't think the deadline is tight at all as they want you to write topical stuff for the show. The turn around is going to have to be quicker than this if you get through.

I'll be trying to write for this. By the way, has anyone looked at the in-depth interview linked to the main page. It gives a lot more info about the show.

You think?

All I can remember is something along the lines of "We don't know what this radio show's going to be like yet, but here's a list of our favourite TV sitcoms."

No, I can remember giving out some information. They advised against swearing, saying that you could writer either 3 satirical sketches or 2 satirical or 1 character, the reasons why they are doing 7 on 7 and its style.

Not if you're on the writing team and you get the brief straight away but it's only 10 days if you've seen the Writersroom posting or this forum entry at the time of writing and don't stumble upon it in a week's time or something. Usually Writersroom put these opportunities up a month/months before the deadline giving slowcoaches plenty of time to catch up.

Maybe the sketches sent in by those of us who knew the first deadline were all shit and they need some more, quick.

We don't know when they plan to start recording/broadcasting etc. I'd imagine the deadline is partly driven by that and perhaps they also assume they will get thousands of entries like RFTP did and want to give themselves plenty of time to read them all.

I noticed this on Writersroom yesterday.
Topical sketches! Wahey! This one is RIGHT up my street. :)

Since not getting on RFTP a few weeks back, I've been polishing my "radio" writing, so I've got a good feeling about this one. :)

Oh, and I do believe they're starting the series in May.

They just want time to read stuff, choose writers and send them to the Masterclass.

The BCG entry for the show is online at https://www.comedy.co.uk/radio/7_on_7/

My guess is that they're looking for writers who can turn a breaking news story into a satirical sketch very very quickly.

There will already be a LOT of people who can do that on here, as it's what myself and other fellow NewsRevue writers do every week.

Jeez, what's this "first deadline" stuff you and Bandage are on about? I thought I was special!

Anybody know the producers behind it? Are they different from RTFP? If so, I might just tweak my RFTP stuff and send it them.

I assume it's Gareth Edwards...

Yeah, I assume it's Gareth Edwards too.

And, from the interview, I get the impression that that Sanjeev guy (Goodness Gracious Me, The Kumars) is involved too.

*************** EDIT ************************

Sorry! As pointed out in the next post, I'm thinking of the wrong Sanjeev. :$ :S

I've sent three of my topicals.
Bloody difficult it was deciding which three to use as my "calling card."

Good luck to all who enter. :)

Wrong Sanjeev - you're thinking Bhaskar, this is Sanjeev Kohli.

I'm not convinced he'll be in there, myself. Suspect he's been brought along as another interesting talking head.

The brief was very vague. Any idea about the style they're after?

Topical and funny seems to be the main requirements - maybe the style will be based around all the great sketches sent in? :D

I think the 10 days is ridiculously short notice; and exceptionally easy to miss, but as a topical sketch deadline seems overly generous. I'd guess when the shows on air we'd have 4~5 days to write in?

Anyone decide how topical the stuff needs to be? ( i.e. - does seat-of-the-pants on the deadline day writing get you bonus points?)
