Not Going Out - Series 3 Page 31

I always thought it was an internal door. The bit outside looked like an entrance hall. Then they had people knock on that door which made the whole open-door thing obvious.

The northern jokes are one of my favourite bits. I am hoping that eventually though, Lee will punch the southern twit!

The door is the front door of the flat. If anyone else mentions that bloody door, I swear I will ban them. Our comments have been noted by the writers, and they have already taken steps to improve it (contrast now with series 1).

zooo and I were actually saying only last night how it gets better on a repeated viewing. Each to their own! :)

I love this show. It's the funniest studio sitcom on the telly right now. The first two series were the best British sitcoms for belly-laughs I've seen in ages. And the current series is second only to The IT Crowd in the last six months.

But Miranda Hart's character bugs me a bit (probably as much as the fact, and I don't know if anybody else has noticed this yet, that their front door is *always open*!!!1)

She's a useful character, because Lee gets to discuss his relationship with Lucy in a way he can't with Tim, but the one-liners about her general crapness as a cleaner are wearing pretty thin. I think there was about eight or nine of them in episode three, and it actually started to detract from the other jokes. In my view.

(I do, however, love the Daisy character. Mainly because of the performance.)

I was about to say the same!

>_<

Lee must be rich, letting all that heat out. His ice creams must be shit hot or is it cold?

It's ok - he's got hundreds and thousands.

(Trust me, it will be a funny line one day)

Badge everyone, cone but not forgotten.

If you've got an ice-cream gag, he'll corn it.

I've got loads, up my green sleeves.

LOL-Lee

Anyway, about this door that's always open...

And the Mr Whippy in the bathtub.

I'm not a prude, but I was offended by the utterance in Not Going Out, and it's consequently tainted my view of the programme.

In comedy, you take risks. The Tourette's-based f-word was one. You lose the odd person along the way. That's what risk is all about. Sorry it's tainted your view of the programme. (Incidentally, if we bleeped Lucy's swear words out, it would have broken the admittedly pretty flimsy "reality" of the show. If you bleep it, it becomes a TV programme.

Jade Goody says 'Paki' - string her up!
Prince Harry says 'Paki' - it's just a bit of jolly banter

I'm not sure Prince Harry's racism was treated as "just a bit of jolly banter" (except within certain circles). He was dragged through the mud for it, and he said it in private, effectively, while Jade's racism was seen on a popular television programme. Neither is acceptable. The word "f**k" and "bollocks" are not racism.

Okay, as Andrew Collins posts here and works on this show I want to ask a question. Something has been bugging me and it really shouldn't be bugging me because NGO is not a realistic show nor one you should try to look for logic in....

BUT...where the hell does Lee get his money from? He owns a huge-arse flat which is nicely decorated, he employs a cleaner, has champagne in his fridge and is a regular at a trendy looking bar.

The answer can be illogical as possible, I just want an answer. I'd like it if Lee was secretly getting lump sums of cash from some mysterious source.

Thanks. :D

Easy. It's Lucy's flat. She bought it at the beginning of Series One from Tim, who previously owned it with his girlfriend Kate. Lee is the lodger. (Lucy runs her own recruitment business and was previously in Zurich, where she made a fortune and returned home.) We wanted to make the new "love interest" a high-status character, so Lee would have even higher to aim for after Kate, who was more modest: she worked for a feminist publisher.
