Red Dwarf 9? Page 2

I will not let our idea for the sitcom about the world's first rap-artist robot, living with his inventor, the camp Scientologist, and their wise-cracking pet parrot, Mr Peterson, run beyond seven series. By then it will almost certainly lost the power of its premise.

Wow my post 1100. I feel like I'm connected with the TV show The 1100. I feel depressed.

I think, to trump Fawlty Towers, we in fact don't make ANY episodes of it whatsoever. And then it shall forever live on as so good, it ended before it started.

I agree. Let's not condascend to the proletariate and unappreciative, non-"proper" comedy fan by actually writing any episodes.
Instead we should only grant episodic interviews with The Sunday Times magazine on how we are "considering" not writing a spin-off series featuring their kooky cleaner, clairvoyant former National Socialist, Mrs C**tcounter.

Fed up of hearing about Red Dwarf to be honest. The show became maudlin and standard sitcom after series 3.

Wrong! Red Dwarf was gold up to and including series six. And then showed sparks of 'goodness' in its final two series.

Ahh, don't rattle Tim's cage!! He's going to explode!!!

8 was shit, though. Three good jokes in 8 episodes is not good going. And some f**king awful acting.

(step forward underrated Chris Barrie).

I'm actually going to sugest him for a role in something I've written. He's a great comic actor, why isn't he on our screens anymore??

I dunno, I only recently re-watched series 8, for the first time since broadcast, and some of it wasn't completely awful. I was pleasently surprised! Yeah, it's nowhere near what it was, but it didn't pain me to watch it.

Interestingly, if you think about it, he's one of only a few actors to have been a lead (or one of the leads) in TWO hit sitcoms.

Ronnie Barker
Nick Lyndhurst
David Jason.

There's not many others, but both Dwarf and Brittas were huge hits.

EXACTLY, why isn't he being used now? Rimmer and Brittas are both powerhouse comic performances. He deserves another great character.

I don't know DAMN IT!!

He delivers a one liner as well as anyone.

Like I say, I'm going to suggest him for something; it'll be interesting to see what reaction I get! He's probably not top of any producers wish list anymore.

Showbiz is a fickle mistress, darlings. The initial suggestion for the lead in my sitcom (you will know this actor) was dumped because for some reason he was out of favour at the network, f**k knows what for.

In the words of Casablanca, "Beware, monsieur, there are vultures! Vultures everywhere."

I am particularly fond of Barrie's cameo in Blackadder The Third. Weird to think of him, Enfield and Coogan in the Spitting Image recording studio all those years ago

And Leonard Rossiter of course.

'Red Dwarf Unplugged' episode not going ahead, so we're getting three new ones in stead of two apparently.

I want to know how a third episode has been written so quickly. This suggests maybe there was loads of stuff left over, or there's more episodes written that Naylor wasn't going to use.
