Me and Mrs Bigfella run a dom care business that handles mainly clients with LD in and around Southend we hold the Essex County Council contract for part of that area.. We also run a training business that offers over 50 short courses in social care - we do the training for lots of county councils and finally we are just going through hell opening a 5 bed home for adults with LD in Bedfordshire!

I don't find big birds attractive at all.
It's not that bad for me. My mortgage has gone down and I'm not really a saver. I also have a pretty secure job. But it has effected at least one of my friends so I'm not going to crow about it.
It's a bit like Russian Roulette. We all do stuff we can do but if you find your in a profession which suffers in economic recessions then it's basically bad luck.
It's quite funny (peculiar) to see people applying for teachers courses because they think that it's recession proof. It is quite. But the fact is the government have made it very difficult for teachers to retire early. So there are very few vacancies. I have two friends that qualified as teachers but work as teachers assistants. When the belt is tightened however they are always the first to go.
I find it bloody hilarious that people think they can become teachers just because they've got a degree, some years experience in their field, and want to do it. The amount of people I've encountered who have come into the profession on that basis, plus a misdirected, albeit admirable, desire to 'give something back' is ridiculous. So many of these people just really don't like children, and forget that as a kid you go to school because you have too, and that your main purpose for being there is to have a laugh with your mates. Recession proof, yes. Lots of holiday, yes. Ok salary, yes. Easy, no.

In my experience (my mum's a teacher, as was hers) there are vacancies, but a budget stranglehold by LEAs means that there isn't the cash to fill the posts. It's pretty shocking what schools are asked to do with the money they're given.
