Is the news bad for you? Page 2

Quote: Dr Mato @ February 13 2009, 12:52 PM GMT

Ban the news.

Are you in fact communist China?

Quote: Danny K @ February 13 2009, 12:46 PM GMT

It's not so much the bad news that happens, as if in isolation, by events outside our control, that's the problem, rather that those in senior positions of respectable authority are so out of control, (literally), that THEY cause the bad news.

Blimey. That sentence neither makes sense, nor do you need to put commas around bracketed passages all of the time! Generally one should choose one or the other - not both!

I'm a voracious consumer of news - both good and bad. I like being informed.

If "no news is good news"
Then it follows that News must be bad news.
Or something like that

No, I am not communist. But if the news is depressing you step away from it.

Please buy newspapers, or I'll be stacking shelves with Aaron. And he'd hate that.

Please buy newspapers

What are newspapers? Angelic

I worked at a paper for 8 years. It's sad to watch their decline.

If 6 months ago, you were out of work, lived in social housing and had f**k-all, this bad news won't worry you - in fact financially, things are easing for you.

Conversely, if your livelihood, assets, savings (and luxuries) are now threatened through no fault of your own, you will probably feel vulnerable and/or exposed, if not depressed.

The good news is that recessions don't last forever and create a raft of new opportunities. So be positive, tough it out and seize your chance!

Quote: Dr Mato @ February 13 2009, 11:58 AM GMT

I ignore it all and keep moving on. :D

Yes, I know what you mean, Dr Mato. Maybe the news media in your neck of the woods have a different approach, but read a British newspaper and it's all about young people stabbing each other, the Government planning new taxes or laws, rich bankers who earn fortunes (from of my tax money) for being incompetent, TV stars with cancer, incompetent NHS staff, box-ticking liberal social workers, mean-spirited local Government employees who enjoy penalising you... The list goes on.

Oh yes, and er, the recession!

I personally never watch TV news, I'm not interested in watching it being showbizzed up by pouting babes who can't read the autocue. Though I do like to read something with my dinner - I think I will have return to reading comics if this newspaper stuff goes on. Someone should do a serious study about how reading the newspapers causes depression.

Aaron, are you employed at the moment? If you are that's one good thing, plus having zooo around, of course.

Hey I work for social services and I don't tick boxes!
Because we're so cashs trapped we can't afford pens, arf arf.

Life isn't all that bad and I've worked in shelf stacking type jobs and they're not so bad.

Frankly if the ridiculos spend and borrow days of a few years ago are gone, good riddance. A 40 inch plasma TV won't make the TV more enjoyable and a stag night in Prestwick isn't so diferent to one in Prague.

I do agree that the shock that some over-spenders are getting now is not such a bad thing. Let's treat our houses like homes not investments.

Now I understand why you dislike The Daily Mail.

Now I understand why you dislike The Daily Mail.

No it's because I'm a gay assylum seeking member of Al Quaeda who's trying to adopt.

Actually in fairness I read the Sun which has way more of a downer on social workers. It's the humorless ban it aproach to BBC comedy I dislike in the Daily Mail.

Sooty - just out of interest what do you do? I'm in social care as well.
