Once Upon A Time In Peckham - should it happen?

Do you think another spin-off from Only Fools should... happen?

The Green Green Grass is good but not that good so what would a prequel be like. Most prequels are crap so would this one be any better?

No.

No.

Seconded.

Generally I don't mind, as long as it'll at least keep me entertained. But I think they need new characters now, and to leave these. And I do not say that from a wah-wah-nana-boo-boo "they're desecrated OFAH's memory" stance.

I don't think it should really happen. Nobody can stand in David Jason's shoes. Young actors these days are generally wooden tops. I cannot see anybody playing Del to the character's full potential, can you?

To be fair, the character would be different. He wouldn't have developed into the Del we know yet, because he wouldn't have had the full life experience of being both mother and father to Rodney, for example.

I just don't see what the point would be really. You've had the show itself for decades, you've had a successful, in viewing figures at least, spin-off; why not leave it and do something else?!

Apart from a big wadge of cash, obviously.

I just hope that it doesn't happen as I just know that it would be a let down. The Green Green Grass is good but another spin-off... oh dear.

Is The Green Green Grass getting good viewing figures then? 3.86 million it got recently. Is that good?

On a similar subject, what happened to First of the Summer Wine? I remember it as not being too bad, certainly no worse than Last of the Summer Wine, yet it didn't last long at all.

All prequels are generally rubbish. Why should Once Upon A Time In Peckham be any different? We can't say the writer will make it good because The Green Green Grass isn't up to Only Fools quality. The cast will be unknowns presumably. God help us if it gets made.

I think it could be ok as JS is a good writer and wouldn't do it if it wasn't right.

John Sullivan stopped being funny in the late 90s. The '96 trilogy was his curtain call.

No!

I remember watching The First Of The Summer Wine. Remember it being wistfully funny, much in keeping with the original.
The bigger difference in years between the original and the special allowed credibility to seeing young actors playing out the well-known roles.
Don't see how it could be anything other than disasterous with OFAH.
OFAH went on too long, think most agree the final specials were a big mistake.
If JS wanted to dust off an old antique then perhaps Just Good Friends could have another airing? Or re-write the underrated Dear John... for a new audience?

I'd like to see something completely new by John Sullivan.
