Play & Record - BBC... Page 6

Hello,

We got an automated response a few minutes after sending stuff in last Friday and I didn't really think anything of it - it's more than you get a lot of the time from other places, but I'm starting to wonder about it now.

Must admit I'm not feeling that confident at this stage as it's been a few days now. I don't know when you can expect to hear if they're interested in something.

Well as I said I only just got mine, so they have probably only just finished reading them.

Well I got an email today from Victoria Lloyd but it contains nothing – no thanks, no faq, nothing. My email was called 'Play & Record' sketch and this is just 'RE: Play & Record sketch'. The only text in the email is my sketch, which I copied out as well as attached.

I have to say that sounds a bit unlikely as it says 'Have you received my sketches?
Yes, if you get this email, it means we have received your sketches. This is a form email which is generated once we have read your email.'

Why wouldn't it just say 'thanks but no thanks'? I still haven't got mine and feel a bit paranoid that they haven't got it. I did send it just before the 9am deadline though.

I can only report what's happended to us... it may be that they didn't get your email? Also, maybe they did not send out the automated email responses in a consistent way? We are dealing with the BBC here and if the latest scandal re phone ins is to be believed, then probably anything can and does happen, eh?

:(

They'll make the winner a taxi driver who wants an IT job... What? Only me?

Hi Frankie - so this is where you're hiding - get on with yer shakespeare - interesting though that material accepted well before the deadline don't you think. That kinda says it's pretty much wrapped up long before lots of people have subbed their honed and re-honed work. That's not jealousy btw, it's great that he's got a toe in the door of course. It just makes it harder to work out how/when to pitch. I asked a question before subbing and got the autoreply in response so am now thinking I've blown it just by asking a question which was only vaguely covered in the blurb. Onwards and sideways then.

I can only report what has happended to us. The fact that they accept the sketch before the deadline now seems to be fairly typical BBC if the phone in controversy is to be believed... rules... ha!

....for adherence by fools as I've always suspected!!! Pleased

Can't see why the debate or what the problem is here really.

I sent stuff in Sunday night and got a standard reply today.

When they receive your stuff they'll reply with this standard email. It's a receipt notification only.

It's nice that they’re doing that in this case as sometimes you get acknowledgements and sometimes you don't.

However it's a fair bet, anybody in panic mode, that if your original email wasn't "bounced" back to you as undelivered then I'm sure they'll have got whatever you sent. It just might be that the automated response thingy might malfunction or miss some out.

I have written to various things at the Beeb, in particular actual radio shows, and sometimes you get an auto response and sometimes not for the same show.

Anyhow - it then clearly says that once the production team read 'em then they will be in touch if they like 'em. They won't if they don't.

So in the modern vernacular:

End of!

Well said Blen. If they did have 700 entries I don't think thay would wait to read them all before offereing the writers the chance to appear on the program. They are probably replying to the ones they like as they go so just because one person has been contacted it doesn't been others won't be.

I'm quite prepared for failure. I've had it most of my life (boo hoo) so if anything positive comes out of it that's a bonus.

As far as I'm aware (and I may be mistaken) there hasn't yet been a recording so far - that's scheduled for July 31st. I sent my sketches at 11pm on the Thursday and got a response by 11am on the Friday. However, I'm not ruling out the possibility that people have already been contacted and that if I hear nothing back by this time next week, then that's definitely it. Wave

Good luck to everybody who has or hasn't had the auto response and is still waiting to hear something positive...

I too am in that boat!

Phew! Welcome to the BSG Khern. You're not the guy from Star Trek are you?

My name was given to me by martians who dragged me out of my bed in the we hours as I lay idle in my underpants. I have got a costume from years back a stretch to get it on but I would look a gaylord in it. Star trek is in my alltime top ten but i'm not a trekie. :P

The "automated" response will, I guess, be generated "automatically" when there is a key word/phrase in the Subject line of the mail.
Subsequently, the 'automated' response may be 'manually' sent when the mail is actually read.
Just an educated guess. I didn't submit.

That is right I think mate!

And never submit mate, don't give them the satisfaction... a grimace is permissable, but never submission...
;)

.. and for those interested in Radio 7 'original' comedy, there is the three-hour The Witty and Twisted Winners' programme today at 9.00am, 8.00pm, Sun 3.00am. (I'm not sure if it's plugged elsewhere on this site.)

"Special programme catching up with the ten Witty and Twisted finalists, and finding out which of them will go on to have their own series on BBC 7."
