Is BBC 2 comedy dead? Page 2

I haven't got a faxing F*X machine! Bugger!!!!!!

At this very moment there aren't any good comedy shows on BBC2, but in the last five to ten years it has given us That Mitchell and Webb Look, The Office, Extras, Look Around You and the last series of I'm Alan Partridge (which, despite being unfairly maligned, was brilliant). We should also remember that BBC4 has been able to make shows like Lead Baloon and The Thick of It because BBC2 agreed to underwrite them... They need another big hit, and soon, but they're comedy output is still far superior to Channel 4's in recent years.

Good point! We're moaning about BBC2, but Channel 4... now there is a crisis! I can pin-point the moment it started: when the schedulers decided to muck about with the positioning of Scrubs.

Well if BBC2 comedy is dead then Channel4 comedy is fossilised. I think we should be thankful that Channel4 hasn't completely given up on comedy, IT Crowd, Man to Man, 8OOTCs, but they do seem to be taking the easier option and importing US comedies. Now Curb has finished I think I would like to see another series of Lead Balloon because if you can get over the fact its a Curb rip off then it is very funny.

It's also because couldn't afford to comission any new programmes this year, due to financial problems.

They have got the wonderful Big Brother though!

Yeah and that's what they rely on, so the problems. heh

Nothing wrong with Thursday nights on BBC2. Fair enough, Hyperdrive makes it a bit of a shit sandwich, but Mock The Week and Still Game are the best shows currently on any channel at any time by about 4000 country miles. Super.

Mock the Week is worth it because of Franky Boyle. If it weren't for his presence I wouldn't watch.

Hugh Dennis is far better. Certainly is in the studio anyway.

Who was the girl ? Jo Caulfield?

She is quite amusing - not as clever as Boyle and Dennis but does have her own style.

She's alright, kind of. I think her style is a bit 80s though.

I see they're repeating Kath & Kim now. Does that mean they're leading up to a new series? I hope so.

I watched that last night. I think it's great.

I love the bits when they do an really poor joke and for a second noone laughs. It must be scary for the comedians. I wonder if they know what subjects are coming up because it looks improvised (not proper improv cause the just rehash old material). I didn't like the blond guy when he first appeared but hes growing on me and yes I didn't like him because he was good looking Laughing out loud
