It did make me stronger though - when I returned to school someone else tried to jump on the bandwagon and I punched her so hard in the face she flew backwards over several desks and ended up wedged between a desk and the wall.
I was pretty much ok after that.

nice one! I hope you knocked her teeth out.

Gosh, I've never been bullied. Partly because I went to a very nice school and partly because if anyone did try to bully me I was never intimidated and they could never carry it any further; having much bigger siblings made be unafraid of physical violence and I could be gobby back. Fortunately this seemed to do the trick.

When I see parents shouting and being rough with their young children I can't help thinking they're probably going to turn into bullies eventually.

Once again - standing up for yourself usually works.

I agree that often bullies target those who seem weak or vulnerable in some way. If it doesn't work, they move on to find a next victim. In my own experience, having the confidence that I could hold my own in a fight (physical or verbal) seems to have kept bullies at bay. Being tall for my age and coming from a big boisterous family probably helped too.

I could send the bullies home crying. When I was eight my brother cut the head off my ONLY doll and hung her upside down in a tree because he was mad at me.

That eve my father found my brother tied to a tree with pine needles and mud all over him. I will say that's the last time he EVER messed about with me or any of the rez kids. They all kept a close distance in times of anger. Whistling nnocently

Why do brothers do that? I had one of those little toy dogs that walk and bark and then sit and do a back flip. My brother skinned it and graffitied its face with a felt tip pen.

Same with me. School was poo! I was so happy when I left!

I remember a mate saying at his retirement do, whenever work was getting him down, he always thought, it could be worse, I could still be at school...

Works in theory. But the one time I stood up for my self I was headbutted. So some people are just c**ts.

Oddly enough I found that standing up for yourself, however ineffectually, seemed to help. At least I don't recall ever being beaten up by the same person twice...
