Whilst that may be true, we are all part of civilisation or we not? - And civilisation some might say can be defined as always advancing to greater heights of excellence and achievement in human behaviour. Wanton violence belongs to the barbaric ages.
Civilisation? As defined on this occasion by Wordnet:
To raise from a barbaric to a civilized state.
Quite, but note wanton-violence. My view would be to create a society that controlled the means of violence until we evolved beyond them.
My view would be the best weapon is the one that was never used, but didn't neccasairly not exist.
The Swedish defence forces shrank recently and most members of the reserves returned their guns and ammunitions. 1000s of rifles never fired, boxes of bullets never opened. But needed when there was a real fear of the Russian bear on the doorstep.
Ultimately the best solution to civil violence, is education and erradication of poverty. But we're not there yet and pretending we are helps no one.
