Koming to Kingston

Well here it is at last.

The new improved Edge of London Scriptwriters.

http://www.mrsite.co.uk/usersitesv6/edgeoflondon.org.uk/wwwroot/page7.htm

so if you're anywhere near Kingston on Tuesday night we'll be upstairs in the Bishop out of Residence from 7.30.

That's a pub down by the river.

See you there then.

Dave

'The Bishop out of Residence'. Worst name for pub ever! If it's by the river it should be called The Swan or The Fat Duck. You should have refused to take up residence there on principle. Angry

as he said to the actress.

I disagree -- that's a quality name for a pub!

It could only be better if it was 'The Knight In White Satin' or something...

Dan

I agree with swerytd - its quality.

I love different pub names or pub signs.

My favouriates are "The fortune of war" on the A127.

And I belive there is a Queen's Head pub which a sign with Freddie Mercury's face on it!!!

Both wrong. Pretentious nonsense. Anyway I am an official pub namer. It says on the tattoo on my arm. It's a blue anchor by the way.

The Bleeding Horse in Dublin quality name and brilliant picture on their sign.
A horse in a pool of blood I shit you not.

Surprisingly the launch has been delayed.

It will now be 17 February - if anyone's interested!

There was a great pub name in Southgate near here, in a pub converted from a closed Barclays Banks (which had a well recognised style). It was called The Bankers Draft.

Alas they have changed it to a boring name now and it is a boring pub.

Not any more - probably 'cos you stopped going there.

There is / was a pub I knew back in the day called:

The Who'd have thought it?

Sign used to be two astronauts on the moon.

I haven't been there in a very long time so it may well have been a casualty of these straightened times. Perhaps in an ironic twist it's now become a branch of a bank?

Who'd have thought it?

A few from Norwich...

The Murderers
The Ribs of Beef
The Whiffler
The Mischief
The Belgian Monk

...and Peterborough

The Fayre Spot and Goodly
The Hero of Aliwal
Cock Inn

May be an urban myth but Norwich apparently had 365 pubs and 52 churches at one time.

Must have been a delight for beer-swilling Christians to plan their year.

Sorry to hi-jack this thread back to it's original reason.

If anyone wants to come along it's Tuesday 17th February at 7.30. Bring along some scripts or sketches. Hope to see some (one?)of you there.

Dave

I can't make it - I've been asked to be a valuable team member in a pub quiz on that night.
