Some things are worth dying for. Like alcohol. My principles are somewhat below that as a close third.

Quote: SlagA @ January 25 2009, 5:17 PM GMTAnother of my phobias and lurking horrors is the day they say ChipnPin is too easy to counterfeit so let's remove crime by putting the chip into people. On that day, I'll be buying extra strength paracetomols. I am a free man, not a postcode, sort code, and account number.
Funny, I was going to talk about that. The day you can't by anything unless you have your 'implanted' credit card. So you do it or starve.
A long while ago I remember thinking well they'll try to chip people for sure but how the hell are they going to get anyone to agree to it?
Then I saw something on the news about putting chips in children so parents can know where they are and that they're safe.
Crafty sons of bitches! I felt like puking! So of course all the worrying parents emailing in etc were saying what a great idea it was and they'd definitely go for it. Really, a stroke of genius in all honesty, but f**king sick at the same time.
Quote: Moonstone @ January 25 2009, 5:12 PM GMTI don't think it's got anything to do with 'this government' Aaron. It'd be the same whoever was in power. Same people would be pulling the strings.
Well I won't argue that there wouldn't be some aspect of it there. But the extent and implementation is arguable.

That day will most definitely come. I think first the government will draft in the identity card thing - knwing full well it won't work. People will be forgetting to carry them with them at all times, losing them, there'll be counterfit problems - and then there'll be another terrorist atrocity and that's when they come out and say "Actually, for your own good, we're going to tag you with a bio-chip beneath your skin. And if you complain, that must mean you have something to hide." A massive chipping programme will be started, with every man, woman and child over the age of 16 (and possibly under) forced to visit especially-set up chipping centres, where they will be fitted with a device that holds all their personal records, and will very likely be trackable via GPS, making the entire world into one great big open prison.
And then we're f**ked.
Yep, same here. In fact I remember when it started. It was just around the time when they first invaded Iraq. My friend and I loved pontificating over the phone about Bush 'n Blair and all the usual stuff. And then *click*. I figured it was because I have a funny first name and my surname ends in "ah".
*Straightens tin-foil hat and crouches under the table*

Nail on the head.
Quote: sootyj @ January 25 2009, 5:20 PM GMTLee you have been monitored like all of us have every time you use a mobile phone.
The technology for monitoring calls is so advanced you wouldn't hear a click.
How do you know this? And if it's not somebody listening, what is the click? It only ever happens when I talk to him and it's been happening for years.
Quote: Lee Henman @ January 25 2009, 4:56 PM GMTWhat would you say if somebody was intercepting your private emails and keeping them to read later? Would you be angry? Outraged even? Well get used to it because as of March, the government is forcing broadband providers to do exactly that.
Time to start writing letters paper letters again? I've got nothing to hide but that's not the point. This is supposed to be a free society we live in. We already can't walk twenty feet past our front doors without being spied on by CCTV cameras, and now this? It's outrageous. Does anyone else feel this way?

Lee, the company I work for has direct involvement in this and is challenging the decision so stay tuned...

On the bright side atleast you won't need to worry about losing your blockbuster card.
Unfortunatly my last job was selling pump parts to Iran, Iraq and Libya - trust me they know who I am!!!!
Is he pressing the button on his phone to freak you out?

Does anyone actually use Blockbuster?
Quote: zooo @ January 25 2009, 5:26 PM GMTIs he pressing the button on his phone to freak you out?
No, we don't even acknowledge it anymore it happens so often. And anyway I've called him before when he's not been in and his wife answered the phone - same click happened, about 30 seconds into the conversation.

Interesting...
Follow my example, and make your life so f**king dull that no one would want to listen in on your phone calls.
Seriously, I'd know if people were. I'd have been sued for causing death by brain haemorrhaging.
