OK, I have plans to relocate to Spain later in the year therefore I am looking to earn some extra money to save for a CELTA course in Seville.
So, I'm on [website removed for legal reasons] perusing the part-time jobs section. I'm not fussy - just looking to earn some extra cash for my CELTA kitty so anything (within reason) goes.
However, this is the vacancy I saw advertised:
"A packer is required by [name of company removed for legal reasons], a vibrant, rapidly growing company based at Borough Market near London Bridge. The role is part-time and consists of working currently on Tuesday and Sunday. The job involves the assembly of cardboard boxes, packing them with fresh fruit and general housekeeping duties.
The ideal candidate will be a quick learner, numerate, organised and with a keen eye for detail; previous packing experience would be preferable but not essential as full training will be provided. A good command of oral and written English is required for this position. It is anticipated that the hours worked will be approximately 15 per week.
A highly competitive salary and benefits are on offer.
If you are interested please email your curriculum vitae to [email removed for legal reasons] together with a brief explanation of why you feel that you are ideally suited to this role".
My response:
Hi there,
are you kidding me?! The vacancy you've advertised is for assembling and packing boxes, and you ask for a CV and an explanation as to why the candidate feels they are right for the job (?). What would I have to be to qualify as line-manager? A neuro surgeon?
Now look here, I am hardworking, punctual and easy to get along with (don't judge me by this missive, I really am easygoing!) and past experience includes packing suite-cases and removal boxes. That's your lot.
Oh and regarding numeracy, I can count to a hundred with my eyes closed.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Ms. Ideal Candidate.
Question: Will I get the gig?
Serious question: Anyone else ever come across jobs specifications that are disproportionate to the actual job?
