Internet comedy

Is the internet taking over from the Edinburgh Fringe as a way of spotting comedy talent? Man, I hope so...

Ben Caudell, Zeppotron: "It's so much easier to look at clips rather than read scripts."

Sarah Farrell, Paramount: "The internet is the home of sex, cheap laughs and offers a great way to waste your day. So is the Fringe, but at least the internet doesn't involve a five-hour journey from London."

A very contentious issue.
The internet is obviously becoming a place to showcase your capabilities. I would regard it as a shop window - if you like what you see, you dig deeper.
I think Edinburgh will remain the proving ground. That's where you're really in the spotlight [and under the microscope].

Most success I've had with TV companies etc has come from showing them my stuff on the internet first. If you've got a few funnies on the web it simply makes people look twice at your written work. Shouldn't be like that but it is.

I suppose it cuts out them having to imagine a writers stuff working, if bits are already on the net then they can SEE it working. Takes out the effort! :D

exactly that.

Yeah, if it wasn't for my stuff on the net I'd be even less successful than I am now...

Also sites like YouTube and FunnyOrDie allow the public to rate them so half their job is done anyway. :)

If Funnyordie doesn't get more viewers soon it'll be dying itself I reckon. They need to get some advertising.

Also, they need a sketch like "The Landlord" to increase it's popularity.

I'd forgotten about Funny or Die. Just checked out our videos on there:

King Lear
has had 1357 views on YouTube
14 views on Funny or Die

What Scotland Has Made
has had 3360 views on YouTube
39 views on Funny or Die

Lucky Stars
has had 9232 views on YouTube
25 views on Funny or Die

Mods and Rockers
has had 1478 views on YouTube
30 views on Funny or Die

I think Die is the option they're going for.

The American Funny Or Die does well though, doesn't it? The Brit one needs to get proactive, I'm sure most people don't even know it's there.

There's so much godawful comedy out on the internet though. I can't be bothered trawling through it. It's too easy for someone to think they're funny and film something.

Don't be so hard on yourself :P

Hey! I didn't say EVERYTHING is awful! Just most of it.
