A compass.

Ohhhh yeah.

Have you used it yet? To get back from Sainsbury's or anything?

Well, that's sort of his supporters fault. I think they projected this unreasonable ideal onto him and he, or more specifically the team managing him, grasped onto it and ran with it to help him get elected. Of course nothing radical will alter, but he could hardly do worse than the last bloke! Or could he? Errr

I wouldn't be so sure. He may be judged to do worse, given what he - directly or not - has promised.

And whether he or his supporters or his team came up with such notions is neither here nor there. The simple fact is, they ran to it (as you say), rather than trying to quell (sp) it.

What was it you discovered in the top recently? When you unscrewed it?

A compass.

That's one conversation I came in on at the wrong time. :)

Nothing wrong with hope. Sure beats the other.

Pessimism can bring positive surprise. Hope can only lead to disappointment.

No. It doesn't seem to be working properly. Think the arrow thingy has got stuck.

I dunno, he'll have to do some seriously bad stuff to go down as worse!

I'm straddling Aaron and Mato et al here. Oo-er.

It's good to have a black president (lots of positive reinforcement about the American Dream) but this messianic hype will look even stupider when Obama (like all his predecessors) cocks up. The sad thing is if it does go spectacularly wrong, instead of just badly wrong, it'll possibly reinforce certain divisions within US society. Radicals on both sides could have a vested interest in ensuring his failure.

Time will be the teller of that.

Laughing out loud Funny but sadly true, borne out from experience. :)

Time will be the teller of that.

Time will be the teller of whether he fails or not. NOT whether he has more to lose.

History too? :D

Still, be nice to give him a chance wouldn't it?

Just a little weeny one?

Quote: Moonstone @ January 22 2009, 5:03 PM GMT

Is that from Hamlet?

Bull on your view of hope. I know many with hope that have been pleased.

I see hope the opposite of apathy. An apathetic society crumbles.

If I wasn't giving him a chance, I would have already gone over there and shot him. No? :)

Bull on YOUR view of hope. Life's more satisfying to be a pessimist. You're either right, or delighted that things have gone better. :)
