Not to be funny but just because you restrain yourself in one area, doesn't make it okay to lay into others and be fair, you have said some really harsh things in the past to people, joking or not. I think that's the point Chip is making.
But Chip, he was really good with Jake and did defend him a fair bit when he was picked on so Aaron can be a nice guy and does draw the line somewhere.

I say I've never bullied anyone, but there was a weedy black kid at school, and every now and then I'd put on an Afrikana accent, shout "South African police check!" and start hitting him with my pencil case.
