Words that make you laugh Page 3

I read somewhere that words with hard "k's" and "p's" in them are inherently funny for some reason.

Ah - found it http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inherently_funny_word

Ooh - good link Lee. And it's got a nice bit about funny numbers too. 32 and 27 I've used many times before, but I've no idea why they are funnier to me than other numbers. Maybe it's just the way they roll off the tongue?

'Penguin' is quite funny, for some reason. And 'buffoon'.

And, of course, 'noo-nah' for a lady's foo-foo...

Dan

I made up a word, the word is 'ricketyboing' it makes me laugh. I was going to call my comedy sketch stuff 'Ricketyboing productions'.

I reckon prime numbers sound funnier. Seriously. "Seventeen" sounds funnier and more "random" than "fifteen", "sixteen", or "eighteen". To me, anyway.

On the I'm Alan Partridge commentaries, Coogan, Baynham and Iannucci discuss this.

Their take is that 15 years ago random numbers like 37 and 63 were funny. But not rounder numbers - Lynn, FIFTY - are funnier. Iannucci then said he hoped there would be a time that 'a million' would be the funny number.

They also talked about funny place names. Coogan thought things like Pontefract was trying too hard and was a bit Marks & Gran. He thought single syllable names like Crewe and Leeds were funniest.

It's all subjective, but it's still fascinating.

And he is correct.

I remember everyone used 'Ipswich' for a while.

'Rubbish' makes me laugh for some reason. 'It's sounds rubbish'. Crap is another - 'Well, that sounds crap'.

I know someone that says it COR AP!!!. I laugh always.
